Hi All, I'm new here so I'm sorry if this has been asked (I tried to search for the topic first).
I was curious as to how everyone feels about the new Silhouette Curio? Do you think it's something you need immediately? Can wait to see how others like it?
I'm hovering over the pre-order option myself. I've always wanted to emboss/deboss. And the idea of etching on metal/wood sounds fun. Plus I love my cameo, but I'm not sure I need another machine taking up space.

This week, the silhouette blog is doing a week about the curio. It sounds like it's a machine in addition to the cameo as it doesn't do as large of layouts as the cameo. Someone I follow on IM had received a curio early and I was hoping someone here may have access to a curio early too.

I don't need another tool! When I'm not in a scrapbooking rut, my Cameo is in constant use.

The one reason that I am interested in the Curio is because it cuts some thicker materials. It apparently cuts thin leather. I emailed Silhouette to ask what leathers it will cut, and they said to send a sample to see if it will cut it.
I specifically want to cut top grain leather. Well, actually it's my son who wants to do this.
Edited to add:
The Explore can cut leather, too. There are reasons I am reluctant to buy an Explore, which have been covered in another thread, but in case someone wants to bring up the Explore's capabilities, I am already aware of them.
Other than the leather issue, I don't really feel a need for another machine right now. I love my Cameo and use it all the time. I do wish the Cameo could handle thicker materials, but it's not a real need for me. For cutting chipboard, I just use Silhouette brand chipboard and glue two layers together to get the thickness I want. I rarely need to cut anything but heavy cardstock, which my Cameo can handle just fine.
I like embossing, but I prefer the cleaner embossing you get with folders. The Curio seems to warp the cardstock a bit, based on the pictures, and that would totally bug me. The metal & wood etching is cool, but I don't really think I would use it.

huh-- never heard of it before, so had to go look at the link! Like scrapnnana, it looks to me like it's mostly geared for the home décor market since it can cut thicker materials, and etch / emboss / deboss thin metals. I don't do stuff like that, so I'll stick with my Cameo (which doesn't much of a workout either these days, but I'm hoping to change that, lol!)

I was sort of interested when it was first announced but I definitely don't need another machine and don't think I'd get enough use out of it to justify the cost.

Ok, I was all set to ignore it when I thought it was just the embossing/debossing that was different. But etching on metal? Um...my other half makes and paints miniatures (Warhammer) and already uses the Cameo to cut plastic for models. If he could etch metal or thin plastic sheets...I might have to not tell him about this, we're supposed to be saving for a house!

I'm interested in it. I love my Cameo and my DH does too (I cut lots of vinyl things for him). I am totally lucking out here - He is going to buy the Curio for us! He wants it to make dog tags and things like that and I can use it whenever I want. Life is good!

I thought in the very early promos, they mentioned stamp-making. I don't see it mentioned now.
Am I remembering wrong?

Dammit, I looked and now I'm sold! Well if both you and your other half would use it, it's kind of a necessity right?

That's the perfect Birthday/Christmas/Hanukah present if you decide you want it decide that he'd like it!
