NBC poll taken during 24 hrs after the debate
The most current poll after the GOP debate has been released. It was a survey monkey. The Donald went up 1 percentage point. This after his comments about Kelly. Huckabee gained a point. But the biggest gainers were Cruz and Carly. 7% for Cruz and 6% for Carly. Bush, Christie, & Walker lost a point. Rubio didn't change. Surprised Trump didn't go down. Surprised Carly went up and is declared the winner. As a Californian who didn't vote for her during her senate run I don't see why some feels she won the debate. Ah politics!

I am so not political so this is huge for me, BUT I think Trump has some good ideas with business and jobs. His manner of behavior is sometimes deplorable and I cannot imagine him talking to other heads of state and trying to get along with other countries when he is angry.

The Donald is making it interesting. I think one of the many reasons he is ahead of everyone is that the country actually is enjoying watching an alpha male who can't be bought. Between Obama who is so skinny and not exactly macho in his mom jeans and John Kerry with his effete mannerisms and man servant who lays out his jammies and slippers every night...it's fun to actually watch a guy with a take no prisoners attitude as he thumbs his nose at political correctness. I watch FOX regularly and for three weeks before the debate, it was way toooooo apparent that they were out to kill Trump's run. Both The Five and The Journal Report were saying terrible things about him...and totally dismissing him for weeks.

That's where we're at? Trump is a straight up idiot. I don't care if he "can't be bought." He also doesn't have the skills necessary to be a president.

One of the surprises was how many of GOP voters who are followingTrump would still vote for him if he runs as an independent.
I think that would certainly help the Democratic candidate.

It's shocking to me that Trump went up. I don't know why I'm shocked though. I think the people that were already supporting him after everything he's said and done are nuts. I don't know why I would give them any credit to change after he said MORE asinine things. It was really sad to hear people hoot and cheer when Megyn brought up his misogynist comments. Is this really where we are?
Just curious Leone, which ideas does Trump have about jobs and business that you like? I'm honestly wanting to know because it shocks me that people like this guy and I want to figure out what I'm missing. All I keep hearing is how he "tells it like it is", "has no filter", "doesn't care who he offends".....These are characteristics you often find in a toddler, which they hopefully outgrow once they learn to be decent human beings. These are not qualities to be admired. Not getting it.
Oh, and I was really hoping Kasich went up. I thought he did very well.

I haven't heard how tho? Even he outsources. And what exactly is his immigration policy? Deport 11 - 30 million (his figure) and have Mexico pay for the wall his company will build? Really? Really? He's delusional.

I think you mean the registered voters who say they'll vote in the Republican primary. Not "the country."
His current success certainly does paint a curious picture about the Republican base.

Surely I am not the only one who stood in front of the tv with my jaw literally hanging open when hearing him say that Megyn Kelly had (paraphrasing) 'blood coming out of her eyes and out of her whatever...'? I heard it when listening to a interview of someone from his campaign (I think it was) who essentially agreed with him and hinted that menstruating women were some how mentally imbalanced.
So with that, and other comments about women, how could a woman even consider supporting him??
Totally not my idea of an alpha male, not even close-unless of course alpha male is code for misogynistic asshole.

I just don't get it. He may be rich and may not be taking money from people but seriously he had used bankruptcy several times to his advantage. I don't think that's an option for our country. The people we owe money to have the largest military in the world while we keep shrinking ours.
I also can't imagine any woman voting for him. While I like that he isn't politically correct he goes out of his way to offend. A politician needs to be able to work with people they don't like and being a bully to them would be a disaster.
He is just so offensive and has a temper. I hope he falls out of favor soon. I think just about any of the other candidates would do a better job.

I'm not at all surprised about Carly Fiorina's rise in the polls. I thought she nailed it in the Happy Hour debate and was very impressive in the follow up interview w/ MSN.

I would never vote for him but I do like that he thumbs his nose at political correctness. I think the PC'ing of everything is going to be the death of this country. On the other hand, if he somehow did become president because we all know the popular vote does not always win, he would probably alienate every other head of state. We'd be a laughing stock.

Crass and crude as it may be, I am so sick of PC-ness and what it has done to this world that I hope others are encouraged to fight against it, too. If it takes a Trump to do it, well...so be it. L

I am tired of "politically correct" behavior being opposite of "saying it like it is." There is a great and respectful middle ground that involves grownups being able to have conversations without name-calling and putting some thought into how comments might be received by others. People resort to name-calling typically when they either lose their temper/composure or just do not have any factual information in which to engage in an actual debate. It is tactic to pull a discussion off-topic. There is a difference between saying "Megyn Kelly attacked me repeatedly and targeted me more than the other candidates on stage" and "Megyn Kelly had blood in her wherever" that was clearly perceived as him giving a hormone-related reason for her actions issue by others. Same as when his speaking engagement was cancelled and his campaign called the head of that organization "weak and pathetic." I find it takes strength to stand up to a bully and say, Hey, I am going to cancel my invitation for you to speak because you're not the dude I want to represent our party, more than to just ignore bad behavior and hope it goes away.

^^^^^ well, Suzy pretty much nailed it, but I'll reinforce the point: can you people defending Trump's so-called lack of political correctness truly not understand the difference between being plain-spoken but respectful, and being rude, crass, offensive, even threatening to anyone who disagrees with you publicly and also huge swaths of innocent members of the public? (women, Latinos, etc.?) Would you allow your children to speak the way he does? Would you do it yourself?
He is just disgusting. I would take any Republican candidate, yes, any one of them, no matter how their politics differ from mine, over Trump. He would end up blowing up the world during one of his tantrums.
I really do not understand how anyone can defend him.

That said, I think there is a difference of between not being PC and just being an ass. Calling women dogs and fat pigs is not bucking the PC wagon it is just being an ass.

I agree with the last couple of posts. What Trump said about women in general and Megyn Kelly specifically had absoulately nothing to do with political correctness. All he did, as my dad would say, is show his ignorance.

You are right in that sexist and crass remarks abound on both sides of the sexes. At the same time though, I expect a person running for president to above that kind of misogyny. To suggest that the only reason that he was 'attacked' was because Ms. Kelly was menstruating beyond sexist. He claims that wasn't what he meant, that only the 'sickos' would think that, but we women who have heard the coded comments know exactly what he meant. And I am in no buying what he is trying to sell.
