I want to make the Buffalo Chicken sliders from the countrycook.net website that was mentioned last week and an important part of that is Ranch Dressing.
Do you buy a bottled dressing that taste really high quality? I hate the taste of mayo and most bottled creamy dressings but when I go to restaurants, they always make really good ranch. What about the jars that are usually refrigerated (I think Marie Calendars and one that starts with Mez...)?
THanks.

I buy the Hidden Valley Ranch powder and make it myself. I use combination of Mayo and Sour Cream. If you don't like the mayo taste, use mostly sour cream and add a little milk.

I really love Lighthouse brand. It's refrigerated usually in the produce section.

I buy it by the pint from our local steakhouse.

Make it yourself, and add a bit more milk/buttermilk and a bit less mayo. What I like about the restaurant ranch is that it tends to be thinner, and not quite to thick. When I make it myself, it starts off thinner but as it sits it thickens up.

I would think that a lot of restaurants get it from Gordon Food Service. If I wanted really good ranch, I would get it from the pizza place (Jet's - in several states, but not all)

Most places order their food products from a company called Sysco. My restaurant makes it from scratch using buttermilk. I'd look for buttermilk ranch recipes!

Nope they all suck. I buy it in pints from local steak house and a pizzaria that makes it themselves.

DH really liked a ranch dressing we got from a local chain, and come to find out, it was from Sam's.
I normally use Ken's Steakhouse, but the make your own option is a good one as well. That way you can control the mayo to buttermilk ratio.

I too would dearly love to be able to buy ranch dressing that is as good as what my local steakhouse serves. I'll buy the Newman's and try it.

Hidden valley ranch powder. It's what our restaurant uses.

I buy Marie Calendar's. It's thick and yummy. If you like it thinner, just add some milk.
Salad dressing is incredibly easy to make. I've tried the Pioneer Woman's recipe and the Barefoot Contessa's recipes. Both are very good. PW has an herby ranch that is really good.

In Oregon we have a store called Cash&Carry.
You can get restaurant supplies in smaller quantities. - Kind of - like Costco size - but not huge bulk restaurant size.
We get our ranch from them.

I really need to try and find s good recipe. Hubby and I love the stuff from a local Irish pub. It isn't that heavy mayo kind and is amazing.

I know that OP said she wants store-bought. But, for me, throwing a few ingredients together is almost as easy and very worth it. I use the Buttermilk Ranch recipe from Our Best Bites. I also noticed they have a recipe for Restaurant Style Ranch as well. Super easy and delicious enough I can justify buying the ingredients even though I have nothing else to use them in. I just thought I'd put that out there if any of you ever want to make your own.

I am not a fan of ranch dressing, but I love the ranch at Cheddar's. I wish I could buy one in the store that tastes like it. I do buy Larosa's brand Creamy Garlic dressing and I like that okay enough (it's regional, I'm sure).
If I could find a dressing as good as the one at Cheddar's, I'd probably eat a big salad everyday. Or heck, if I could find the recipe and make my own, I'd be okay with that too!

Ranch is my favorite dressing and I hate it when restaurants use cheap "ranch" dressing. I will actually skip going to a place because their ranch is not real ranch. it never dawned on me to buy it by the pint from restaurants. to the peas who said they do it, thanks for the tip!

One of my favorite restaurants uses ranch they buy from Gordon's. I went to Gordon's to buy my own, but I can only get it in a five gallon tub. I like ranch, but wowzers...not that much. I need about 25 friends to split it with me.

I love the ranch dressing/dip in the US! It's just not the same up here. Off to check out that recipe. For Canadians, my favourite is Renée's Homestyle Ranch, although I only use it as a dip for fresh veggies.

I think the Ranch powder packets with sour cream are much better than the ready made you can buy.
