I use it for buffalo chicken dip, I make a ranch chicken dip that you eat with crackers, sometimes I'll throw a can on a salad with almonds, wonton strips and honey mustard dressing. I'm going to try the melts, that sounds great!!

I only use it for chicken salad, but it's way easier than cooking the chicken, waiting for it to cool, then shredding it. No different than making tuna salad and tastes just fine. I just made chicken salad on croissants last week with Aldi's brand and it was yummy!

I buy the canned chicken at aldis add a bit of mayo and sliced grapes and my friends rave about my chicken salad! Chicken salad with walnuts or pecans and craisins is wonderful too. Yummm that sounds good too!

I have used it in casseroles. It's not bad. It's not as tasty as freshly roasted.
When I worked in the food pantry, canned chicken was like gold because of its shelf stability and small portion.

Boiled chicken is not the same as canned chicken. There is nothing gross about it. It flakey and moist/juicy, perfect for sandwiches and salads. I love the Kirkland brand.
I don't buy it because my husband and son can " sense" it in the pantry. They will each eat a can like they have not been in years. Seriously I left the house for an hour and they found the hidden cans that I just bought at Costco and ate all 4!
I need to learn how to can it myself.

I make batches of shredded chicken to keep in the freezer, but when I am out or didn't have the foresight to thaw some, the melts made with canned chicken are my go-to quick dinner on weeknights when we are running in the door from work and right back out to kids' activities.

DH used canned chicken for chicken salad sandwiches, mixed with mayo, celery, and sweet relish. I'll often have a sandwich when he's put it together and the taste is fine. We only buy the chicken breast type.

valincal saved me the trouble. When I saw this thread, I just thought someone had bumped the last canned chicken thread. I keep the Costco Kirkland canned chicken in my pantry, mostly to toss in a couple of cans when there's a food drive, but I also make one thing with it occasionally that my sister bugs me to make for her. It's okay, along the same lines as canned tuna but not fishy smelling. I like tuna, but I'm always adding things to cut the fishy taste/smell. Just in the last couple of days, I posted the one thing I make with canned chicken (a really cheesy tuna melt recipe that I make with chicken instead). If I can find the post, I'll come back and add it here. ETA here is what I posted the other day: I make a version of this recipe: tuna melts @ allrecipes.com with these changes: Actually, I use canned chicken instead of tuna. I don't know why, because I like tuna. Use whatever. Also, I absolutely do NOT use a full cup of mayo! ick! I use the least amount of mayo it takes to properly moisten the mixture, maybe a quarter cup, tops. But be sure to use lots of shredded cheese. That's what makes this sandwich wonderful. Whatever cheese you like. I spread the filling on toast, open faced, and reheat in toaster oven until the cheese melts.

I have about 12 cans of it in my pantry. I use it to make chicken tacos, and the Velveeta Chicken and Brocoli Rice Skillet Meal (Should I turn in my Refupea card now?), on nights when we realize its 8pm and haven't ate yet.

Shredded chicken sandwiches! For all the people all skeeved out: do you eat chicken that is in canned chicken noodle soup? Do you eat canned tuna or albacore? Do you eat canned beef vegetable soup? Do you eat lunch meat? Do you eat Spam? Do you eat canned corned beef? How is this different? I haven't read all the replies, but I wouldn't use canned chicken and I also wouldn't eat any of the options you've listed!

I buy the Costco six-pack. We use it for chicken salad, ds puts it on the caesar salad he takes for lunch every day, we make open-faced melty sandwiches, I have a chicken dip recipe that's good, we use it in fajitas or burritos... We like it. The Costco brand has nice big chunks and doesn't look or smell like cat food to me.
And for the record, yes we eat canned tuna, lunch meat, and canned soups. Spam, no.

Nope. I'm picky about the source of our meat and I don't want to can it myself. Plus, we just don't really eat things (chicken salad, chicken casseroles, etc.) that canned chicken would be OK in.

I used the Kirkland brand recently to make chicken salad to serve on mini croissants for my sister's bridal shower (with mayo, Craisins, celery, pecans and curry powder) and everyone loved it. I even had more than one person ask for the recipe.

Yes, I have. I haven't in awhile though. I used it to make chicken salad that I and my girls would eat for a fast lunch. That was mostly during the summer when they were home all day and when they couldn't feed themselves (as in make the food- not babies that literally can't feed themselves). I'm putting it on my grocery list though so thanks for the reminder!

Don't laugh but my Mom used to give us canned chicken and canned turkey sandwiches when we were growing up. The texture is just like tuna and it doesn't taste fishy. I actually *liked* it a lot! Now that I am an adult I haven't seen it in a long time. I remember it was made by Maple Leaf. This is going back at least 40 years.

I use it to make chicken taco dip. Mix up 1 big can of chicken, taco seasoning, taco sauce, 2 cups cheese. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

I use it once in a while as well.
But I prefer boiling, shredding and freezing my own. Sometimes I even find the cooked chickens at Wal-Mart on sale, and I buy a couple and freeze that meat. Nice and quick.
Now I am craving buffalo chicken dip. Sigh.

I don't like tuna salad, so I use canned white meat chicken to make chicken salad and eat it with crackers. That is the only thing I have ever used it for and that is maybe 2-3 times a year.

I have never bought it, but I don't cook..therefore my husband hadn't purchased it! But I have it in cold salads that friends made. I thought it was good. Hubby says we should just buy and shred since it is more economical, and he can then add whatever spices he wants. I don't know!!!! I just know if I don't have to make it, I am good!!

Ick. I've had it and used it years ago but like femalebusiness said, why would you use that when it's so easy to cook up some chicken? I don't know what world she boils chicken in, but it's not quicker to boil chicken than opening and draining a can. lol
ETA: totally said in fun, although reading it, sounds bitchy - not my intention...lol.
Not quicker but just as easy. I just bake it at 350 for 35 minutes.

I buy it every great once in awhile and then after it has been in my cabinet awhile I end up donating it. LOL However, now I kind of want chicken salad. Wonder if I have a can in the cabinet or if I gave it to the church food drive last month...
