PSA: Many insurance companies offer reductions on premiums for kids who go away to college - without a car, of course. Check the miles-away requirement; ours was 100 miles. A friend got an even cheaper discount for 500 miles away.
Of course, it's not something the companies publicize much...
(My kids do not get the discount 'cause they live at schools close to home. Ironically, when home, they take public transportation or walk more than they drive, but rules are rules...)

Ours only did that if we had less cars than drivers. When we had a 4th driver and 3 cars, we got that discount for DD#1 being more than 100 miles, but as soon as we got the 4th car, even though it stayed at hom, we had to pay full cost.

Yes, DD has that discount (she's 1,000 miles away.) Both kids have a good grade discount.
I've never had to ask for any of them. USAA makes sure I know about them when I set things up.

Ours (Allstate) had a program that we could complete with our dd, for a discount. There were online, video, and in-the-road components. I believe the program was called TeenSmart, or something like that. It wasn't free, but the cost was worth it.
