I sent an email to corporate. I don't see myself being anywhere near a store anytime soon and to be honest, it doesn't seem like it is the fault of the local store. So we will see what happens.

I don't see Claire's as being "way overpriced." I view it more like a Dollar Store for jewelry and really expect anything from there to be rather poorly made and not of any real quality. That said, I would definitely expect a pair of earrings to last more than one wearing though.
While it's best to return a defective item as soon as possible, if it's not convenient for you, then your email might be the next best option. I hope you get some satisfaction from that.

I'm always amazed at how many people would just let something like this go. At how many people seem to have money to throw away. I know seven dollars isn't earth-shattering, but still... it's like pulling it out of your wallet and throwing it in the trash. Somebody in the family worked hard for that seven dollars, and I guarantee if it were me, I'd be more than a little pissed if it were tossed away with such a cavalier attitude. I just don't understand the mindset of eh, it doesn't/didn't work, throw it away. Anyway, since you asked, I would most definitely take the earrings back to the store for a refund in a timely manner, and shop elsewhere for my earrings next time. Simply wearing a piece of jewelry while shopping doesn't equate to falling apart. Even in today's world of inferior products, I still expect a product to last more than an hour. I feel like I should tape your first paragraph to the fridge. "Eat the leftovers, eat the fruit you asked me to buy!" Sorry for sidetrack. Carry on.
