I've had my ears pierced for 23 years. I wore earrings in secret from my father from age 17 - 19 when he died. Then, I didn't wear them at all for years. Like 10. Then sporadically for the next 10 years. My holes never closed.
I have my 3rd baby and in a fit of hormones I had to have diamond studs. Why? Because you know, I was going to die tomorrow and the baby wouldn't have any jewelry from mommy because of the other two children. Hormones... Sigh... To placate my guilt and shame for that surge of insanity, I wore them 24/7 for the better part of 2 years. The longest they were ever out were 3-5 days.
2 months ago, I took them out and never put them back in. I went to put them in yesterday and my one hole is closed. What?! Oddly- it is open half way in both directions. I can stick it through the front and it won't come out the back. I can stick it in the back and it won't come out the front. Somewhere in the middle it has closed. Or, it isn't lining up anymore. Who knows.
So 23 years later, after wearing them more than ever before in my life, the hole closes?
My question, will they just re-pierce it for me or what? What is the solution here? Is there a way to line up the back hole and the front hole? Can I trust Claires with this important life matter?

I'd grit my teeth and poke it through. Then wear them daily and clean them just like you would a new piercing.
And no, I would not trust Claire's. They use a gun, which really doen't have the aim you need. A tattoo place can do it for you if you don't want to do it yourself. But really, I think they are just going to poke it through.

I've had that happen. I just shove it through there and cry a few tears. Then I keep the earring in for a while. It's always been fine for me.

I had the same kind of thing happen. Wore them for years and years. Then I got a second hole pierced and started having nothing but trouble with that, so I let that hole close up and since then I had nothing but trouble with the original holes. They closed up halfway the same way as yours. I sucked it up and pushed it through but I never could wear earrings for more than a few minutes without intense itching and irritation - even the non allergenic type.
I hate it, but something changed and I just can't wear earrings anymore.

I pushed an earring through the second hole in my ear lobe and it tore. Now my second home is off balance and it is extremely obvious, at least to me. I wish I had taken myself to a place to get it repierced.

I've had that happen, just grit your teeth and push the earring through. It might bleed a little.

Okay... I sucked it up. Couldn't get it through. WTH is the problem?? I'll go old school and get the needle and an ice cube next. It hurt like a sonofa... I need a minute. Child birth got me into this thing, a little pain is relative right?? Good thing they are pretty ear rings. Maybe I should just put them away for their future owner.

My left ear is off, but it always has been. From the front it looks more like a little slit than a hole, and the earring has to go in at an angle. I'm guessing the lady slipped when she pierced it. I do have to poke it through sometimes.

I'd run a french wire through the closed ear. That will hurt less than the stud stem.

Ladies we are tough! I would push thru too! I did have to have my top re-pierced. Same thing here, I had to have diamond studs while pregnant. I couldn't even get it half way through. I did push through on the bottom holes. And when I had my cartilage done I went to a tattoo place.

I'm having the same problem. I have tried more than once and just can't get it in. No seriously. I may just go to a place to get them re-pierced.

Same thing here, I had to have diamond studs while pregnant. I'm normal!!!!!! Your validation is worth a million bucks! I ran straight to DH to tell him. The french wire is a good tip. I'll try that first before going all needle on it.

This has happened to me on and off throughout my life. Just push it through. It's gonna hurt like a son of a bitch but it'll be fine. Usually I can't get past the pain and I have my mom do it for me. For some reason someone else causing me pain is ok, but I can't do it to myself!

Find piercing studs. They're pointy at the end. They will hurt bad but will go thru. If you can't do it, ask a friend or DH to do it. Take some Vicodin or Aleve or something before. I've had to push mine thru holes that have been pierced for over 35 years. I left the earrings out for a week and they mostly closed. After FOREVER! I was shocked! Leave the studs in for at least 6 weeks and treat them like newly pierced ears. I'd leave the studs in as long as possible myself. Probably months.

Seriously listen...you can get an earring through. Stick the post of the earring in neosporin/ointment It really helps the earring slide right in. You may need to give a slight push but it will go through with little to no pain.

I had to push one through years ago. Now I pretty much only take them out to clean them and shower and right back in they go 90% of the time. When mine closed up I actually went to an ear piercing place and they didn't want to know, so that is when I moved to the DIY method. I never even thought of a tattoo parlor. Good luck.

If you can't manage to push it through on your own, go to a piercing shop - NOT Claires, but a real piercing shop, where they can use a needle and open it back up for you.

Freeze your earlobe first with ice and you won't feel a thing. Put neosporin on a piercing earring stud, leave the ice cube on the back of your earlobe and poke it through. It should be easy since the hole is mostly still there. I pierced my own ears with a needle this way when I was 13.
I also like the suggestion above about going to a tattoo/piercing parlor to have them do it for you.

Get a face cloth and wet it with very hot water. Hold it over the hole for a minute. Repeat. Sterilize the earing - then push the post through.

I've had this problem in my right ear ever since I've had them done around 20 years ago. I wear earrings all the time but the problem is always there when I change them for a different pair. I just keep wiggling and pull at the lobe, down, sideways etc until I find the back hole. It's always worked so far.

My story is similar to yours, in that I had them young, stopped wearing and they eventually closed up. Two years ago I went to Claire's to have them re-pierced. One hole was re-pierced perfectly, the other, not so much... It's a tad over from the original hole. I don't think it's too noticeable unless you are really looking at it. I couldn't really tell at the time of the piercing that it wasn't the original hole that was pierced and I was too chicken to go back and say something.
Just last weekend I took out my studs that I got when they were re-pierced and wore other earrings for the day (something I've only done once since getting my ears redone). I took them out at the end of the day and went without earrings for the next couple days. When I went to put earrings in, I couldn't remember which of the two holes was the new one, and which was the old! I tried both and neither hole would let my earring post through easily and became swollen and warm to touch. I was able to finally figure it out and push it through again, but I did panic for about an hour that I wasn't going to be able to get my earrings back in!

Have you tried pulling your earlobe down while your sliding the earring in? Sometimes that stretches the hole enough to get it through. (That sounded a little wrong, but familiar. )

Yeah, BTDT. The neosporin has always worked for me. It still hurts, but the earring goes through. I've had my earrings out for a couple of weeks, I better go try to put them back in or I will be in the same boat.

Make sure you have front and back lined up.. Ask me why I give that advice. Ouch.

When that happens to me, I take the earring in one set of fingers (like I am putting it in) and put the thumb of the other hand behind the hole. I put it in as far as it will go. Then I kind of squiggle it through. Not just straight pushing, but squiggle it. Sometimes it takes a bit longer to go through, but it always works.
