Congratulations!
My mom retired from teaching 4 years ago. She takes a book with her to Starbucks on the first day back and enjoys the quiet!

From another retiree - welcome to the good life! Your plan for the day sounds good and it will be about you so that is a good thing.
Whatever you do enjoy it and just think of being on holidays for the rest of your life. While I have missed work colleagues I have never once woken up and said "I wish I was going to work today" there is just too much else to do.
Have a good retirement!

tarheelgurl my boys keep telling me they want to retire. They are 19 and 21. I turned 50 and two days later retired. I was lucky. Now teachers have to be about 58 to consider it. Can't decide if there is really a movie I want to see. My retired when he graduated high school. Took him a year to decide to try the military ( that fell through, and we are not quite sure why). He started doing handy man work and now is going to college and he finally got a steady job.

Enjoy your first day of retirement - after that you will probably become so busy with other things that you will wonder how you had time to work!

When I stopped teaching I was kinda sad every fall for the first few years. I missed the excitement of the new students, fall bulletin board, first day...but I got over it. I also missed having a daily schedule, so in the beginning I made lists of what I would do throughout the day. Ridiculous, right? Now I look back and think that, but at the time it helped ease my transition.
Congratulations on on your retirement! Enjoy all the new hobbies you'll acquire.

Our superannuated teachers have a club that hosts social events throughout the year (they are a part of the teacher's federation/union), and I know that they have a big breakfast/coffee meetup on the first day of school--lots of people being happy together that they are done!

Enjoy the first day of the rest of your life! I have many teacher friends who have retired and have said they are busier now than they ever have been! Do what makes you happy!

Yeah for you! Your day sounds wonderful - I want to see the new Meryl Streep movie Rikki and the Flash. I plan on joining you in 7 or so years.

Congratulations! August 28th will be the one year anniversary of my retirement after 31 years of federal public service and the last year has been one of the best of my life. It's awesome to sleep in if you want and pretty much do whatever you want each day. My DH is not retired and has no desire to at this stage so I pretty much have the house to myself. Our son is a student at our local community college and still lives at home but between school, his job and his friends, we don't see him a lot.
What I did find is how fast the days go by.....I don't remember my work day going by as fast. It seems like I'm busy all the time and I have found myself saying "How in the world did I work 40+ hours a week and still get things done?". Enjoy your retirement!!!

You're officially retired now! Congratulations! What are you doing? Well, it is 10:30 and I am in bed. I did feed the dogs at eight. I started getting texts from colleagues at 7:15 Apparently they are not excited for the four hour staff meeting. I am milking this for all it is worth.
