Does the tag line 'the fudge you hate to love' seem strange to anyone else? Seems a weird kind of thing to say, I have had gin though so I could be wrong!!

I think the marketing is funny and would certainly get my attention. The prices however....holy smokes! $19.95 for one pound of fudge?!

Kerri W I've seen fudge priced that way from several sellers on Etsy. I wonder if they are photos that the seller took, or did they buy /steal them off the internet? They seem like they were all taken by same photographer, set, etc.

sharlag Maybe we should start a Refupeas Fudge Company? It's easy enough to make. We'll be rich in no time! Seriously though, I have a friend who sells $3-4000 worth of fudge every year from Thanksgiving to Christmas. She only makes one kind, peanut butter, and sells it 3 lbs for $15. They have to turn people away because they can't possibly make *more* fudge in that timeframe.

I could do it here too and we could rightfully claim we are an international company!

It was peanut butter, powdered sugar and one other ingredient. I don't do well at "cooking candy at the stove" recipes. I think fudge would be a good Etsy item because it's pretty sturdy, unlike cookies that are more breakable.

Mackinaw Island fudge here in Michigan is expensive too. Nearly that expensive at some of the online shops I have seen. But it is sooooo good! I'm kind of glad it costs that much, lol, so I don't buy as much as my little heart desires.

I don't like fudge. I love ganache (we used to be able to get it from the store and it was goooooooooD!!!) I find fudge too gritty with sugar even if it is totally dissolved.

Now I want fudge. There's a booth at the Raleigh Farmer's Market that has excellent fudge--it's perfectly smooth and melts in your mouth. So many places let the fudge sit out and get grainy. I hate spending $8-$10 a pound for fudge that is grainy.
I have some great old fashioned fudge recipes--I love the kind with marshmallow cream and roasted pecans. They're a lot of work to keep the fudge from crystallizing--it only takes a couple of sugar grains on the side of the pot to turn the whole batch back into sugar crystals.
I never make it because I'd eat the whole pan.
I'm not a fan of the easy fudge made with sweetened condensed milk. If I'm going to eat sweetened condensed milk, I prefer key lime pie filling. It makes a delicious dip for ritz crackers... (leave out the eggs)
I have a friend who LOVES old fashioned peanut butter fudge. I'll be very interested to hear if the PB fudge from this Etsy seller is good. I'd love to send my friend a package of PB fudge because she just finished radiation for cancer, but since she's been having issues with her mouth, I want the fudge to be perfectly creamy and not grainy at all.

Never been on etsy before so let me see if I get this straight. Been open since Feb 2nd of this year and has made 3 sales to date with 2 being in the past 24 hrs. This does not seem the way to go about selling. I hope they have another means to sell...lol

This does not seem the way to go about selling. I hope they have another means to sell...lol etsy is HUGE tho, and it can take a while to get noticed, and to bring people in. and open date is not necessarily the date they started listing items- sometimes they use it as a placeholder for their shop name while they work on their product line and logistics. so hypothetically, they could've just "opened" with product a month ago.
it seems like they are aiming more for viral marketing, and we've just proven that can be successful. you come across that, you want to share it for one reason or another! I admire them for being different, finding something that set themselves apart, and must be in line with their sense of humor. success is sweetest when done "your way"!

that's some good marketing. I'm going to start selling fudge from my home. I've been making it since I was a girl and I'm good at it. I've done it a bit with my kids as fund raisers for different things, but this time I'm going to do it for myself as a money making effort.
Fudge is expensive. It's time consuming and even the best fudge makers sometimes have batches that fail. $20/lb is more than I would charge, but the person charging $5/lb for peanut butter is under valuating herself. She should up her fees especially if she's turning people away. $5/lb is basically making less than $5 an hour for your work. I do $10/lb. I make around minimum wage for my time at that price. I don't blame the Fudge Grudge person a bit for charging $20/lb. Good for them.

Yeah, $20/lb seems ok to me, because I can't make fudge, and it's a treat that I'd only buy on occasion.

I've had very good luck teaching people to make fudge, but it has to be in person. Doing it over the internet has been hit and miss. sharlag you'll just have to come visit me and I'll show you how it's done.

$20 a pound isn't really all that bad, especially when you figure in packaging and free shipping.
And it's possible that she opened her Etsy shop some time before she actually started adding listings. The date on my Etsy is not representative of the length of time that I've actually been selling and especially what I'm currently selling. I used my Etsy account to sell a lot of vintage items when my parents died.
