I just freaked the cat out with nearly hysterical laughter.
WHY would anyone trim a shrub, much less a line of shrubs, into that shape?

Someone needs a ladder to do their bush trimming! lmao! There was a house near where I used to work and it had vagina bushes. We used to give directions to people by telling them to take a left or a right at the vagina bush house.

The house is on the market, too. I'd think the realtor would suggest this bit of "depersonalization"

Nicole in TXHere's the front of the house. It's definitely brightly colored, but it's one of the painted ladies of our old town (which is known for its Victorians) and I love its character.

@busypea , that is lovely! It is interesting how the windows are set in the corner at an angle. Love the checkerboard and the little sunburst at the roof line!

Maybe they had really bad neighbors on that side and this was their payback.

I've seen similar in our area. I always assumed they were caused by deer snacking and not being able to reach the tops.

@busypea , that is lovely! It is interesting how the windows are set in the corner at an angle. Love the checkerboard and the little sunburst at the roof line! The ones on the left and in the middle-ish are angled to maximize the river view. I presume the the right is angled for symmetry. And nope, they aren't to annoy a neighbor - they are at a dead end street with no neighbor on that side! Deer don't usually eat evergreens around here, and if they did, the lower branches would most likely be completely bare, not just shorter.

The house is beautiful but the shrubbery (what's the word for that kind of shaped shrubbery ... trying to avoid saying bushes here, LOL) is yes, unfortunate.

Okay that's really bad.
My FIL has a hedge right in the front of the house. It kind of grows weird at one end and when he trims it looks like a flaccid penis. He has no idea. My MIL must not notice it either. My husband and brothers haven't said a word. They think it's hilarious.

That unfortunate trim job was definitely done by deer. Nope, it really wasn't. They were the same shape when they were much smaller and short enough to be browsed entirely by deer. (image from Google Maps) Not to mention when deer eat a shrub, they strip it to the branches, they don't leave it evenly pruned all the way around with still plenty of greens on the low branches. Plus, deer very rarely eat evergreens around here as there is plenty of more palatable greenery for them to eat year-round.
