really really stupid by the end of the series? All of these characters that pop in for a few episodes and then completely disappear, all of the original cast had left except Golly who ended up with a baby for some reason, and then super annoying characters that show up and NEVER LEAVE (Amy, I'm looking at you. Also, Ewan. Also also, Donald.).
I was totally hate-watching the last season determined to see it through. No surprise that it was cancelled. I'm surprised Cousin Oliver didn't show up at some point.

My friend told me about this series, and I watched a few episodes, but just couldn't get into it. Not sure why, it just didn't click with me.

I liked it with the original characters when people started to leave it became unwatchable.

I totally agree. I loved, loved, loved the original characters but it really went downhill at the end. Didn't keep me from finishing it though. I still rank it high on my list of favorites, but only for the first seasons.

It got very ridiculous, but the scenery stayed gorgeous!

Nodding my head in agreement! I loved it at first but I dropped out as the best characters dropped off. I guess I bailed out at the end of series 3.

I didn't have the patience for the last season and gave up. It's such a shame when a really good programme goes down the tubes.

The scenery was indeed gorgeous. That house! Sigh.
I guess what surprised me was how great it was at the beginning and how completely terrible it was by the end. Lots of shows go downhill, but this decline was impressive to say the least.

I didn't watch the last season at all. I just couldn't get interested. I loved season one, and as my usual viewing habits, I rarely watch a series past the second season. They seem to all go downhill after that.

God yes, totally. I don't think I even made it to the end.

After the original male lead left, things went down hill fast. I did watch it to the end though.

I gave up a few seasons in, after most of the original cast had left. Our middle daughter is named Molly, though, in part because of Monarch of the Glen.

I gave up on it. The lameness just got out of control for me.
