He got it at his work number. I found it to be very amusing. The conversation went something like this:
-----
"XYZ Helpdesk on call, this is V, how may I help you?"
"Hi this is Microsoft calling about a virus on your computer"
At his point my friend interrupted "before you begin, let me advise you that you go have called the **Wisconsin Department of Corrections IT help desk**. Choose very carefully what you are about to say. Now, would you like to proceed?"
<click>
"guess not"

That was one of the more fun calls. When I asked them "How can I have a Microsoft virus on my computer when all we have are Apple computers?" <click>

I either don't say anything when I pick up the phone - this ticks them off as they continue to say...hello, hello (more frustration in their voice)
OR
I tell them we don't own computers. Why would we?
Both result in "clicks".

hahahaha Excellent. -- I often wish I'd get one of these calls since I use a MacBook. Problem is that unless it actually says "Microsoft" in the Caller ID I'm not likely to answer it.

My husband actually works in the IT dept. at the Wisconsin department of Justice in the crime labs. He would love to get that call at work!
When we get it at home he usually asks a ton of very technical questions and the person calling says, "why can't you just do what I tell you to do?" LOL

In my area they hijack local numbers and I live in a small town so it could actually be someone I know so I answer. I just hang up that works as well as anything. DH and his response is totally different and can take many minutes before the call ends. Of course, they can and will hijack your number if you really piss them off. You ought to see those phone bills.

We got that call just a few days ago and I gave the phone to my four year old and told her to tell them a story.

I've gotten about 10 of these in the last week. They seem to come in waves.
