To some who said, well it is okay as long as they don't take the signs down in the clothing department, really? Because...you won't know which clothes to buy your kid? Hey! How about any ones they'll like! I don't care about the signs, just the grouping together. And yes, much to my dh's dismay, I would probably buy my son a "girly" shirt or whatever if he wanted it. But often I shop for youngest ds (4) when he's not with me, so it's not a matter of buying what he likes its a matter of convenience for me. If I'm looking for a white t-shirt I want to be able to grab a shirt without getting home to discover it's got ruffles on it, or a pair of jeans with lace on the butt. I don't think they're mixing things together yard-sale style. They are just removing signs that tell them who is 'allowed' to wear, play with, sleep in, etc. specific items. For clothing I would think you'd still be able to tell you are in the department that has the clothes that mostly girls will wear, etc. The funny thing is that if Target had never made a big announcement that they were removing these signs, it would probably have never been an issue.

Someone upthread said they'd shop more at Target because of their response. So maybe some think it was the real Target posting. They meant the official Target response with the troll dolls, not the "Ask For Help" responses. That was me, and yes I meant the troll doll photo. It made me laugh, and I liked that they had a good sense of humor about the whole thing. The troll himself was funny, but Targets response made it all the better.

I think we are all commenting on Targets response with the photo of the trolls. I'm pretty sure everyone knows there is no way in hell Target would comment like that. Someone upthread said they'd shop more at Target because of their response. So maybe some think it was the real Target posting. No, pretty sure she she liked targets response with the trolls since she (anxious mom)liked my initial response to gypsy girl regarding it.

I just think that some people could read the responses and maybe think they are from a Target employee. No worries, I followed the link to Target's response from the original article/link. The whole argument makes me both laugh and be confused. I mean really, are people going to all of a sudden get confused about buying Barbies?? If you want to buy a Barbie for your son, you already know which aisle it is in, not labeling isn't going to cause instant brain loss. My sons played with both 'boy' toys and 'girl' toys. All it did was make them happy. I didn't need the guidance of a sign to tell me if it was okay or not.

Truthfully, I am a bit concerned about these people who can't figure out how to buy a toy without a sign telling them which one to buy, lol. I mean, how do they figure out which car is theirs in that big ol' parking lot. And then, how do they figure out which pedal to press for gas and brake?

Not only did this crack me up it confirmed my suspicion that a whole lot of people mouth off before their brains are in gear.
ETA: I am still bitter about the boys toys that I wanted as a kid but wasn't allowed to have because, you know, girls aren't supposed to play with those toys.

That was so funny! I'm dying here BTW They are only taking girl/boy signs off the bedding, room stuff, and toys. Clothes will continue to be separated and labeled because the fit and sizes are different. It's a little scary to see that people are getting so worked up over blue vs pink toys. Quoting bible verses and everything. Can't they figure out what they want by looking at the toys?

That is hilarious! People like Mike Melgaard give me hope for the future!
The stupidity and gullibility of people never ceases to amaze me. Target is simply taking out the word "Boy" and "Girl" from its toy signage to create a space where children and their parents don't feel forced to decide what TOYS their kids should choose. The leap that people have made to clothing being mixed all together is purely media hype. I'm sure none of them actually read Target's press release. Why would they need to? They get everything they need to to know from a fair and balanced source. I for one am sick of this BULLSHIT!

And, I go to Target twice a week and have never even noticed these signs. I don't get the outrage some people have at their removal.

Unless toys are anatomically correct I think it is misnomer to call them "girl toys" or "boy toys". When did toys develop a gender? Some people really needed to be trolled. Target Troll Response

I love Target, and their response with the troll dolls was awesome! (Now I want to dig around in my boxes of stuff to find my vintage troll doll, who is naked and not anatomically correct for either gender!)

Love it! Am amazed there are so many people out there bent out of shape over Target removing girl/boy signage. So are all those super worried (about their child's possible gender identification) parents going to say "And you STAY in the BOY toys isle, I don't want to catch you even glancing toward that girl stuff because your are a BOY, got it? A BOY is what you are and a BOY is what you will remain!"

ETA: I am still bitter about the boys toys that I wanted as a kid but wasn't allowed to have because, you know, girls aren't supposed to play with those toys. My grandmother once made the "mistake" of giving her grandson (my cousin) a doll when he was very small. After that, his mother (my aunt) always gave me "boy" toys in retribution. No, I don't know how I got in on it (I'm several years younger than aforementioned cousin and I don't think I was even born when the doll was given) but joke's on her-- I loved that tonka bulldozer and all those cars.

I loved the troll's responses as well as Target's response. We all giggled last night reading them. I still can't believe people get that worked up over taking down boy and girl signs. Good grief. I think reading comprehension is a real problem for a lot of these folks. Target never said they were going to jumble up all of the toys so that you'd have to search aimlessly among completely unorganized playthings to find your Barbie doll. She'll still be with 753 of her friends. You'll be able to find her! And jeez, men's clothes? tampons? People, we're only talking about toys and some bedding! The kid bedding will still all be together, and I think you can choose dump truck sheets without anyone telling you "Oh, hey by the way, these are for boys, so if you have a boy, it's okay to buy these. "

Oh, and paint me immature too, then, because I thought the responses were so funny. (And obviously not from an actual Target cust. serv. rep. A point which seemed to be lost on a few of the complainers, LOL!) And some of the complaints were way over the top. "Extremely outraged!" at what?? Because now the aisle marker says "Kid bedding" instead of "Boy bedding"? Oh....because somehow this means the whole world wants your boy to decide to be a girl just for the fun of it? Yeah, those changed labels will be causing mass gender changes world wide, I'm sure. Anyway, did you see target's actual response on their FB page? They posted a photo of troll toys saying that they are back and only at Target stores!

I don't understand the outrage either. Before the whole topic exploded over the internet I wasn't even aware there were girl and boy signs. I always look for the brand signs at the top of the shelving. And honestly, I'm only really looking for the LEGO aisle. I'm truly frightened by how easily people can be spun up until they can't even distinguish between "your" and "you're" anymore.

The stupidity of some people is scarily hilarious. And I love how many of them refer to their patriotism in their complaints. WTF has that got to do with it?! Thanks for the laugh OP!

While I don't care one way or another how they post signs and target, I can't help but think that this is just more politically correct nonsense. I will still know where to buy my granddaughter her clothes and toys but I just have to shake my head about today's society

Very funny troll. And I don't understand the outrage at the removal of the signs. At some time it must have been decided to add signs and allocate a gender to toys. I bought my son a baby doll, a play kitchen along with a trainset and blocks. Not because they were suitable for a particular gender, but they were age and developmentally appropriate. Toys are toys.
