What have you guys found to be the best styling tool for beach waves? My hair is just below shoulder length and I just can't seem to make a flatiron or a curling iron work. (I do have a super cheap curling iron though, so maybe that's my problem there...it doesn't get very hot). The flatiron works for some pieces of hair and then doesn't even make a slight wave in others. My hair is wavy when wet, but doesn't stay that way if I air dry or blow it dry. I usually wear it straight but would like to be able to wave it some mornings for work without spending an hour doing it.

Do you use any product in your hair? There are a variety of sprays and gels that help the hair hold the wave/curl. I use a curling iron and a spray in mine.

A curling wand is good for beachy waves. I suggest watching some YouTube videos.

I think in addition to a good styling tool... maybe even more important... is the product you use. My favorite is Aquage Uplifting Foam. My hair is stick straight and won't hold waves or curl if there's a drop of humidity in the air, but that stuff does wonders.

My hair is stick straight and the best curling iron I have used is the Bed Head Bh318 Curli Pops Tourmaline Ceramic Tapered Curling Iron in the pink color (I bought this at Ulta). You can probably find this at Target as well. It was under $30. With this curling wand, I curl my hair in the morning and it lasts throughout the entire day. It takes me about 10 minutes to curl my hair, I have shoulder length hair as well.
It creates really nice beachy waves. You can I also use heat protectant and when I curl a strand, I hold it in my hands for a second then let go. Since, it is doesn't have a clamp, try to be careful not to burn yourself. But for me, curling wands make longer lasting curls than the ones with the clamp. Afterwards, I spray a finishing spray on it. I would also suggest watching YouTube videos, those are pretty helpful.

I either use a 1" curling iron (Bed Head brand) or a wand (NuMe brand, similar to this). I have super thick hair and it takes me a good 20-30 minutes. I also need to have hair that's a little dirty, so I usually only try on 2nd day hair. To be honest I still struggle with getting the right look, even after watching tons of tutorials. Not sure how everyone else is getting that perfect look!

For a no heat method you can braid your hair in like 3 or 4 braids when its damp and when you take the braids out it will be wavy. My choice is either salt spray on damp hair and scrunch or use a large curling iron. Small barrel will make tight curls but a larger one like over 1 inch will make waves. Curl one facing forward then the next facing back. Alternate all the way around and then mess it us with you hands to undo it and make it beachy. If your hair is thick make sure to use smaller sections if youre putting too much hair in the iron it wont get hot enough to break the bonds and curl the hair.
If you need a new iron Sally Beauty supply has the Hot Tools brand its not super expensive and works well. I use them in the salon.

Be careful w/curling wands because they can get really hot and burn you. My hair is stick straight and will only stay curled for me with a curling wand. Jose Eber makes a nice one, and Hot Tools makes one with a clip. They are both tourmaline. Most of the curling wands come with a special glove to use to aid in the curling process.

I've spent way too much money on tools only to find that my blow dryer with a diffuser attachment does the trick!
Twirl segments of your damp hair tightly and then twist around your finder (creating a 'pin curl' against your scalp. Place that diffuser on top holding it there while it dries. Smif your dryer has a one button cool option, shoot it with some cool temp before you release the hair.
You can do small segments as well as large segments this way!

Same as above. Try salt spray on damp hair and scrunch or curl one forward then one back alternating and mess it up with your hands to loosen.
