UPDATE: Well, I will try to teach him to jump. That would be ideal. I have tracked down a ramp for sale in my neighborhood for $25! I have no issue keeping the ramp in the Jeep. There is plenty of room. So, all is well that ends well! OP: Hi all! I will be picking up my new Jeep Wrangler tomorrow, and will be taking it on a trip soon. We think we will be taking our dog along, and will need a ramp, steps, or a 2 in one combo so that he can climb into the back. Please share with me what you have and what you do/don't like about it. Also, if you remember, please share about how much you might have paid for it, or where you purchased it. The sooner I get it, the better, so I can't purchase it from somewhere where shipping is long. Thanks! ETA: I need something similar to this:

Our Bed Bath and Beyond has This one in the store.. We use it next to our bed for our pup, but she is getting big enough that she probably could jump now. Anyhow, at $35 and then with a 20% off coupon, it is a great price and works well. Out pup is 23 pounds though, if yours is a lot bigger, you might need a bigger set.

My sister had a ramp to help her older dogs get into her car but I'm not sure where she bought it. I do remember it had a non-slip coating down the middle, like a red carpet- so the dogs could walk on it without feeling unstable. At first they were unsure of it- but they got used to it very quickly. It telescoped together when she was done with it, so it didn't take up much room in the back of her car. The part that 'hooked on' to the back of her car was padded with a rubbery covering, so it didn't slip or scratch the car. www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/pet-smart-ramp/1042980452?Keyword=dog+ramp+for+car

We have the one you have in the picture and we bought it from Petsmart a couple of years ago. It has been very useful for both of our goldens. They both caught on real fast - if you don't go up the ramp you don't get to go in the "truck" (our SUV). We paid around $115.00. I think it is also in the Drs. Foster and Smith catalog or online.

Isn't your dog a younger dog / big dog? Our dog just jumped in. Unless your dog is older or small or the jeep is really jacked up, I'd probably just let them jump in. We have a boxer/lab mix and he would still be totally lazy and try to get us to lift him in sometimes. LOL. bastard is 80 pounds, No. No I won't carry you into the car lazy ass.

He's almost 60 lbs, but he won't jump. He's LAZY. I pick it up tomorrow, so I will see if he will do it, but if he won't, I need time to get him used to the ramp.

We have the same one you have in the picture. I found it on Amazon. Free shipping in 2 days with Prime. We use it because I have a couple of older dogs who can't go up or down the porch steps without help. I noticed all the dogs are now using it. They love it.

We had an older golden lab with severe arthritis. We had her put her from paws on the van carpet, then gave her a boost up, hoisting her under her tummy. I thought about a ramp and we did have a semi permanent ramp in the backyard so that she didn't have to use the deck stairs to go potty. But hoisting her up worked well, as I didn't want the ramp in the van all the time and she couldn't get up on her own. And I knew I'd forget the ramp when we needed it. I couldn't lift her--she was a moose!

All our dogs just jumped up, or we did the back leg boost like someone else mentioned. Unless they are old or crippled up I'd be teaching the dog to jump up. Will he even do a ramp? if he won't jump? would be a shame to spend money on a ramp, and he wont do it?

I'd rather try the ramp and see if I can teach him to use it. If not, I can always return it. We have a longish trip ahead of us, and I won't pick up, or push him in every time he needs out.

Well. putting down a ramp ea time isn't going to be much easier then boosting him up. That would be a PITA. plus take up needed space hauling it in/out.

Welcome to the Jeep family! Anytime I have had to find something for my Jeep I end up at this site. Quick shipping - free if over a certain amount.
Anyway, if you have a hitch, this is a pretty cool step that just folds under the bumper for easy access. I have not used this, but I trust this site and their products they sell.

Our lab, Tucker, is now almost a year old and around 80 pounds. I have a Volvo XC60, and while I'm sure if properly motivated he COULD jump up into it, but he hasn't seemed to figure that out. Plus, our last Lab wound up having TPLO surgery after jumping in and out of our car (and it wasn't even an SUV), so we're a little careful with that. We bought this ramp from Amazon. It's textured, so it's not slippery. We started by putting it flat on the ground so Tucker could try it out, and after seeing my DD walk on it, he just followed her. That part was easy. It is pretty steep when it's leading up to the car, but he doesn't have a problem with it. And it doesn't take up that much room if we want to take it with us. For the price, I'd recommend it.

We bought this ramp from Amazon: Solvit XL rampIt was about $100. We have a 13 year old yellow lab that weighs about 55 pounds. She used to simply jump up/down into our Honda Pilot, but it is a pretty big leap and I worry about the wear and tear on her joints with her age. When we bought the ramp, we first extended it and laid it on the ground. We used a few treats to lure her to walk up and down it a few times. It has a nonskid material on it that is really nice, but sounded a bit funny when her nails scratched on it and she was a bit leary at first. Then, we just started to put it a bit higher, like on the first step going into our house, so that she got used to it. Now, she just walks up and down it with no issues at all. I really like that the ramp was light weight, but very sturdy. And that it telescoped out to a decent length (to make the incline not so steep when using), but compressed down to fit in our vehicle. I strongly advise you to measure the back of your vehicle to make sure the ramp will fit in it for transport. I actually got a tape measure out to see what would fit best and how the various lengths of ramps would work. Some of the shorter ramps made for very, very steep angles up into my vehicle.

(Although I worry more about jumping down--it seems to me that it would be a harder impact.)

I want a ramp but not sure it can use it to get in the door on the side. I don't want my boys in the back. They ride in the back seat. They both have severe car sickness, and are very scared to get in because they know they are going to be sick. I have to lift them. As they get bigger, it's going to be hard. The 7 month old is 50 lbs. right now. The 4 month old is almost 30 lbs. I don't know that they make a ramp to fit on the side. Hope you find what works for you!

We had a Grand Cherokee when Tucker was younger, but because he'd had a long bone issue as a pup he wasn't that great at jumping and needed a ramp. From the day we got that car I could not wait to get rid of it because of that stupid ramp. It took up a lot of space when we traveled, and we always had to make sure to back into spaces with a median or island so that the ramp didn't stick out into the parking lot when we were unloading him.
Both first world problems, I know, but I just hated it and couldn't wait to get back to a minivan, where he has no trouble getting in and out.
