A friend of mine passed away and I was going through unorganized photo boxes to provide some photos to her family. I have about 6-8 photo boxes of unscrapped photos from before my boys were born. It made me feel alot of things looking at the photos - first, frustrated because they are not organized and I cant find what I'm looking for, second, sad because if I don't scrap these photos they will get tossed out. No guarantee they won't get tossed, but they are pics of my life and third, anxious to get them scrapped because there are many wonderful memories that will make me happy to look at in books.
But right now I am working on a book about the first half of my Air Force career, and it is very time consuming. I will probably be working on it for the next few months. In between I am scrapping the current pics I get just to keep them from stacking up.
Do you have any thoughts that you will scrap most of your pics in your lifetime? How long would it take you to do it? I'm wondering if I should just adhere them to cardstock and put them in page protectors in albums, or should I take time instead to organize them in boxes? Id have to use crop time to organize them probably.
I just don't know what to do so I'm wondering what others are doing.

What about just putting them in pocket pages? You could add journaling if you want.
I have several boxes of photos from pre-digital days and many prescrapbooking. Personally, I hope that I'll get the time to do something, but if I die, well, not to be crass, but I'm dead, and I won't care what the family does with them. But I don't feel the need to scrap every photo or every thing. I think you have to do what brings you happiness and what makes the most sense to you.

I don't expect to scrap most of my photos.
My extra/unscrapped photos are currently organized in photo envelopes in chronological order, and stored in photo boxes. I am considering someday adding them to pocket page albums (without the scrappy/PL approach), so they are easier to access and look at.
I have no photos from my childhood, as there are a few albums at my mom's house, and she won't part with them. I've borrowed, scanned, and printed, a few favourites, but that's it so far. I also have probably less than 10 photos of myself after age... um, 8? 10? Or so. Well, maybe it's less than 20 photos, but there aren't many.

I don't expect to scrap most of my photos. A lot have never been printed out. I have a few bags of old family pics from my mother that I'm sorting and scanning, so at least I have a digital copy. I need to find some archival envelopes or something similar to protect the originals I decide to keep.

I'm very sorry about your friend. And hope you are able to find some good photo to share.
For most photos I have them chronologically in pocket page albums.
1) My childhood until college 2) DHs childhood until college 3) Us pre-marriage (basically college) 4) Pets 5) Holidays 6) Everyting else in chronological order
This serves several purposes for me. Most importantly they can be enjoyed right now. Also, as I am ready to scrap older pages I can look through the albums and see what inspires me. Or if I have page kits I can flip through and very quickly see color and style wise what works.
The exception to this is vacation photos. As much as I would like to do the same with them, the sheer number of photos makes that impossible due to cost and space. So those are in IRIS photo containers.

My older, prescrapbooking photos are in various boxes and albums, roughly chronologically.
I hope to organize them better when I retire. Worst case, my kids will have to deal with them when I'm gone!
Sorry I don't have any brilliant solution for you.

It's nice to have all the photos in albums chronologically so I can flip through to get inspiration and other people can look through them as well. I don't scrap chronologically; I just scrap whatever I feel like at the moment. I don't care if I ever get them all scrapped because they're already in binders. My exception is vacation photos as well. Those photos and associated memorabilia go into an expandable clear envelope type thing from the office supply store and are labeled accordingly. When I'm ready to scrap an entire vacation, everything is all together.

Id have to use crop time to organize them probably. I just don't know what to do so I'm wondering what others are doing. No way. I don't have a prayer of scrapping even half of my photos and I don't even want to. All of my printed photos are currently in 9x12 Iris cart drawers in my closet. They are totally unorganized, but that might be something I tackle at some point. I wouldn't even bother putting them on cardstock TBH. I would sort through them first and purge all the blurry or otherwise bad ones. I would get a bunch of 12x12 pocket page protectors and some photo boxes and slip the best ones in the pocket pages and the rest in the photo boxes. If I had thoughts about the photos or any relevant info as I was going through them I would maybe jot down those thoughts on an index card and slip it in with the relevant pics either in the pocket pages or in the boxes. This solves three things. One, it gets them weeded out and somewhat organized. Two, it gets any relevant info down and with the photos in case they NEVER get scrapped. Three, if I ever did get around to scrapping them, I only have to look in one place. I had almost none of my childhood pics until about six weeks ago when my sister visited and managed to get our mom's photos from our other sister and together we spent 2-3 days doing a marathon sorting and scanning session. As I was going through and batch scanning them, I jotted down on index cards any info I had about the pics such as who was in them, the rough dates, and anything that was written on the backs for each batch. I'll put all of that info into a typed out and printed document and include it for any of my siblings that may want copies of the scanned photos. My primary goal for my scrapbooking is to get my photos of DD scrapped first and foremost. After that I will tackle photos from vacations that DH and I went on before we had DD, then my childhood pics and the ones I have for DH (he has lots, I don't have that many even after scanning for three days). If I still need scrapping fodder, I have an entire bagful of really old negatives that came from my mom's family that I don't even know what they're of (or in some cases who the people in them are). It would be fun to scan them and see if I can piece together anything from them for some heritage pages. I have a nice scanner that will do negatives, so if any of them are printable it will be awesome.
