We have a new studio opening up very near my office/home. My regular gym (LA Fitness Signature) has really gone downhill so I just canceled my membership there. I've heard great things about Orangetheory, but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has experience with them.
I'm really looking forward to trying something new!

No but I know someone who works there and it looked really innovative. I'm waiting for them to open a location in my city.

Cool! I think I'm going to give it a try. They have a smoking good deal if you sign up before the end of the month. I'm excited!

What is their pricing? Nothing is on their website and I realize it might be differently regionally.

I'm not exactly sure. I am getting a free week, plus a water bottle and 50% off on the heart rate monitor. I'm going to go in tomorrow, so I'll post more info afterward.

I was a member for about a year and a half. I loved it! It's a fun workout, and very challenging. It's usually about 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength. It's basically like having a personal trainer, without having to pay for one. It's never boring, because the workouts are never the same.
The pricing at my studio was $89 for two days a week and about $140 for unlimited.
One of the downsides is that the studios are fairly small, so certain class times can be very crowded and the number of available stations can be an issue. I found it to be frustrating to go to classes that they'd overscheduled. There were some instructors that I really didn't care for, so it was a bummer when the only classes that fit into my schedule were the ones that they were teaching. Some instructors are much better than others.

I found out that I can lock in "early bird" rates of $119 for 4x a month, $139 for 8x a month or $189 for unlimited plus tax. Class size is 45 with 3 stations of 15 people. I've never taken a class there so I'm on the fence but hate the idea of spending so much money on fitness. smartypants71 what did you decide?

It's hard, but doable. My studio is a little smaller. I think it can only hold about 25 people or so. All the equipment is really high quality. The treadmills are especially nice. they have a bit of a cushion, so it really lessens the impact on your body. I especially love the recap they send you after the workout. The format for me was: Rowing intervals Weights (lateral dumbbell raises, squats w/Bosu ball, lunges w/TRX, elbow to hand planks, squat to dumbbell lifts, side plank dips) Treadmill intervals I joined and will be doing the 8x a month one. Here is my recap:

Do you think that calorie burn is correct? Did you put in your weight? I've never burned that much in a workout class.
What is the pricing in your area for 8x a month?

I think it's a pretty good estimate because they do enter your weight in your HRM profile. I know that the average person burns about 100 calories/mile while running and I think I ran about 3 miles. Plus, when you add the cardio from rowing, that sounds about right. There is no resting except for the time it takes to go between stations which is not long. I'm paying $89/mo for 8x.

Can you take a class there before committing to the plan you want to purchase? Or can you pay for the cheap plan and then say you want to upgrade? I have unlimited classes where I exercise (not Orangetheory) and it is $189 a month. I go about 3-4 times a week so I think it's worth it. Individual classes are $24.

My bff was going for about 4 months, but then it just kicked her ass too much and she quit. Its a serious work out all the time. I think it was too hardcore for her to sustain.
She was doing so well prior to joining, too. She was running marathons, etc. THen she wanted to kick it up and it kicked her ass. Now she's on a total hiatus and not doing anything at all anymore...
Not to discourage anyone from going, that's just her experience. Ours is always very busy.

That's a good calorie burn and just about what you would expect from a class like that. I haven't been to one of their facilities - YET - but I'd like to.
From what I've heard they have all of the HRM readouts up on monitors so you can see where you fall compared to other people - is that right? I'd love that for the pure competitive nature of the experience!

No the pre-sale pricing ends once the studio opens. I can't take a class at another location, it would disqualify me from signing up with the person I spoke to. Annoying and weird. I was prepared to spend $100 a month, but $200 (once you add tax) I don't know. I could always move down to the 4x a month after I've started the classes, but the price will be higher so I really need to decide now.

My studio is brand new, so they are doing classes for free all week. However, I think they offer 2 free classes if you use the coupon on their website. The rules maybe different from studio to studio though since they are franchised. I don't think I could do this type of workout more than 2x per week. It's pretty intense! I'm going to supplement it with yoga and pilates which are free at my office along with mountain biking.

It is true that your readout along with the rest of the class is up on the big screen, but unless you know the names of people in your class, you really don't know who's who. It's not really meant to compare yourself to others - it's really meant to see which color zone you are in. The instructor guides you during each interval to try to get in to a certain color. It's a really great way to visually represent your effort and as an incentive to push yourself harder.

The guy told me if I had signed up or did something on their website I would be disqualified from taking the early pricing. I'm annoyed I have to pay for the heart monitor. Honestly I could care less how I compare to others in the class, I'm not competitive. At Flywheel my name doesn't even make the board because it only shows the top 10 cyclists. lol
That's good to know more than 2x a week would be too much. So now I'm debating between 1x a week or 2x a week? I will supplement with other things.
