I'm getting my hair cut soon. I'd LOVE to dye it blonde again but last time I did it, my hair completely fried after the first time the roots were done. I have EXTREMELY fine, EXTREMELY thin hair. And I use a flat iron on the ends at least 3-4 days a week. Did my last stylist not know what she was doing or would having my hair fried be typical for the kind of hair I have? It was SOOO crispy and straw like at the ends and because I have a shorter cut anyway, cutting away the straw like areas wasn't an option. Any opinions? Suggestions? I'd love to have it highlighted at the very least...but I already have ends that are in pretty bad shape just from using the flat iron and being outside this summer.

It's hard to tell if it was her or not, maybe you need to let your roots grow out longer so she has more real estate to not get dye on already colored hair. It could also be the brand of color she used or she left it on too long. Honesty I think if your hair is telling you to cut the flat iron down to once a week. Try a new way to style your hair without it. When I fried my hair I started using this product which was a lifesaver. Now that it's healthy I use this product every few months. You also need to keep your hair moisturized with an oil. I use this product and this product. If the oils are too heavy, you can just dab the ends of your hair. Another pea said she puts coconut oil in her conditioner then rinses it out. I put oil on the ends of my hair every night before going to bed (coconut, jojoba, vitamin e, sesame). Get a shampoo without sulfates which will be gentle on the color. My hair is one thing I don't go cheap on, I have to look at it everyday and it affects how I feel about myself. I tell myself that I've spent too much money on my color to let the sun adjust it's color. You have to wear a hat which will also protect your forehead from premature wrinkles.

Thank you for all the advice and product info! I'm going to read through all of them and see what I want to try. Unfortunately, I can't let it grow out because once it gets just past my shoulders, it starts falling out. I have skin issues and the loss of hair is part of it since it involves my scalp. I'll give up the straight iron last though. I get these weird waves that stick out in every direction underneath in the back. It looks ridiculous if I don't straighten it.

Like you, I have ridiculously fine hair. I used to straighten it but I could see the damage the flat iron was doing. Now I wear it naturally curly and save the flat iron for special occasions. As for coloring it, ask your friends who color their hair who their stylists are. That's the best way I've found to get a new hairdressers who knows what they are doing. Good luck.

You can go to sleep with wet hair and hard curlers in the back, that will get rid of the waves then you can brush out the curl straight or it will eventually fall. Or you can try flat metal clips in the back to force the wet hair to dry up straight in a ponytail, then brush the hair down once it's dry. Or google a better solution, I found two links giving the same suggestions and a couple more ideas: video and a linkI repeat, you can not put heat on already damaged hair, you are making it worse, you don't have a choice here. I've been blonde for 4 years and in the beginning went through some damage, I've been in your shoes. This is just friendly advice.
