Do any of you follow Humans of New York on social Media? If so, did you see all the recent posts from Pakistan?
I thought they were very enlightening, especially the stories about bonded labor in the brick kilns. I must have my head buried deep in the sand where that is concerned, because honestly, I didn't even know such a thing existed.
I love all that Brandon does.

Yes. The posts from this trip have been powerful. Brandon may have saved many lives. He's raised about $1.4 million in three days for the brick kiln slaves' cause.

I had never heard anything about the brick kiln slaves until HONY. Jaw-dropping stuff and not in a good way.
But even so, all the money that has been raised will change sooooo many lives. Amazing.

I agree ladies. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the money raised was enough to put an end to it all? I have really had my eyes opened as well.

His work is important on so many levels. I enjoy it so much when he's home, but when he travels, I am always so blown away but what I learn and what he shares. He is amazing and so lucky to have found a way to turn doing what he loves in to such a humanitarian cause. What an incredibly intelligent and compassionate man.

Yes, and my stomach turned each time he updated the story about the brick factories. It has been one of the few times I've felt like I "really NEED" to donate to this cause. Blessings to Fatima for all she does...

While I didn't know specifically about the brick kilns in Pakistan, I've read/heard some stories in the past few years about modern day slavery in general (bonded labor, human trafficking, etc). I'm surprised we don't hear more about it and I wonder if in 50 years people will look back at this time in history and question why this big issue was not well known.
ETA: The Pakistan series has been terrific (if often sad) and the story about the kilns and bonded labor has been gut wrenching, but important. Fatima is an incredible woman and I think it's amazing so much money has been raised to help her organization. Humans of New York is one of the best Facebook pages out there, for multiple reasons.

If I'm not mistaken, there was an update on her and a member of HONY that lives in Pakistan offered to take her in and she was going to be getting medical care as well.

He's raised over $2 million. And he wrote a really beautiful post this evening about Pakistan and our judgments/perceptions. I hope this money can do some good.

As I was reading the series about the brick kilns I thought to myself "Brandon: changing the world one photo at a time". He had brought a number of causes to light and managed to raise a ton of money for these causes. He is amazing.

Completely off topic, but just an FYI, his girlfriend runs the FB page Susie's Senior Dogs. She posts pics and stories of adoptable seniors in shelters around the country. She has found homes for thousands of senior dogs. She and Brandon have the cutest pair of seniors you ever did see. They are definitely a good deeds power couple.

I didn't know that Susie was his girlfriend (or at least I didn't remember that). I did see Brandon's recent posts about the dog he adopted from someone on the street, and because of HONY I follow the instagram account Wolfgang2242. I believe that guy has adopted from Susie's Senior Dogs.

I saw that post too.

I've been keeping up with the Pakistan posts! The brick kiln stories are shocking and heartbreaking. The money raised is impressive and I hope the lady advocate can buy out a lot of that indebtedness and set those people free.

I have been following HONY since I heard about it and bought his book. I recall the story he shared about how his mom was so upset when he quit his job as a bond trader I think. His posts really make you think and the comments from people all around the world are so insightful too.
I also follow Susie's Seniors his girlfriend is also awesome!
I wonder how these ventures turn into paying the rent and buying food though.
