Can someone explain how these work? Curious about the idea, but have no idea how to participate. Thanks,

We put some challenges on the board, you have a certain amount of time to do them. We chat and play games during the crop. It's FUN!
Some crops I've been to have prizes. Usually it's something from another scrapper. It used to be, online stores would hold a crop and give away lots of product. Not anymore...

Each site runs different things, but the basic premise is there are challenges (to get us creating) and there are games (for fun). Think Happy Hour but with various challenges to accomplish. We share what we make in the gallery. Many have weekend crops and all the challenges have to be completed by Sunday at midnight to participate. Stores or kit clubs would include prizes and classes. Hopefully we can do the same. However, I do think since we aren't a store, we can be a bit relaxed too. Here they would be given a designator at the beginning of each thread like the "Hh2" threads

Thanks - it sounds like fun. Especially since I do all my scrapping at home.

I've hosted a few in the past and they are fun! I would use a free private online chat room for mine. Everybody loved them, but the people with slower internet connections would complain that they couldn't win any of the games because their responses to trivia questions, word scrambles, etc. wouldn't pop up fast enough. It was hard coming up with games that didn't require everyone to be quick on the draw.

I like the crops that use Go To Meeting where you can hook up your webcam and interact with everyone. If I could afford it financially, and find a way to staff it, I would like to offer a 24 hour crop room where folks could drop by anytime they were scrapping and felt like interacting. We all scrap at such different times with our busy lives, some of us are up in the middle of the night, some try to cram it all in on the weekends, some scrap during the day when the DH is at work and the kids at school, but sometimes it would be nice to just have a place to hook up to and chat about your project with someone. That is my dream but I just can't quite get the mechanics of it to work yet. But I am hopeful I can come up with something. I see it as an extension of this forum, where we could actually visually ask our questions, so our hauls, share our pages, get advice, in real time. But then also have specific crop events with games and prizes, and even have guest demonstrators showing new product or techniques.

maribeth That would be so AWESOME!! Can I work for you?! I know I think it would be AWESOME to, but there would need to be enough interest from scrappers that they would do a membership so I could cover the cost of the software and an employee or two that would monitor the room when I am unavailable. I just have not come across enough people would would be interested in a membership to get the room up and running. I think it could be a really fun place and people would like it once it was established it is just getting that initial capital that is the deal-breaker right now.

maribeth, I'd totally go for that. nana2callie, I do all of my crafting at home too. crazy4scraps, I could see how slower internet connections would get frustrated, especially now that I live in the boonies and have one.

Structure the quick draw type of games with a random winner out of all that get a correct answer, rather than the first answer submitted. Answers would have to be emailed so as not to give away the answer to everyone. I would also do challenges that are quick paced, like see if you can add 5 circles to the layout you are working on. But I would really like the room to be very interactive like the early crops I attended where people actually helped each other out when they were blocked etc. And even though it would entail using USPS, if folks were into RAK and someone had the perfect little sticker, or scrap of paper that could add that finishing touch to their layout, wouldn't it be fun to be able to pop that in the mail for someone at the crop, and then they could share later the layout with the gift. I just miss that interaction with fellow scrappers.

I was actually doing the crop on the forum with a designator in the thread line, so everyone knows its a crop thread. We weren't going to have a chat room as we can chat on our forums. The kit clubs crops I've participated in, just had a special forum board for their crops and chatting was held in a thread. Since we are not a store, I thought that we wouldn't have prizes for everything, but we already have a few of us donating prizes and I'm going to hit up some of our on-line shops for donations. But??? we'll see how many prizes that we get. So not every game would have prize anyway or maybe by participation or maybe by .
I would love to see everyone's projects in the flickr group. I know I put off uploading photos to flickr and then posting to here. Not that it's difficult but just extra time. And until Ashley helped me at the beginning of the month I couldn't get the photo to show up in the thread. I did take pictures of the process to do a tutorial for us on, because I know I'm not the only one that struggled/struggles.
I would love to see us sharing our work with each other in real time and helping each other out too. I haven't found the best solution to that yet. Does anyone know of a free video conferencing service that would allow many people on at once? I know Skype only allows 10 at a time for video. GoToMeeting offers a free trial for 30 days, so that might be a possibility for the crop for real time chatting and viewing of projects. Maybe have some set times for getting together each day. But the challenges and games would be hosted on the forums!!

It makes perfect sense to do it here and use the gallery that is already established. Thanks for heading this up!
