I am looking to upgrade to a smart phone, but the prices are out of my league. Where can I find an inexpensive phone a an affordable data plan? I may also upgrade DS if we can get a good deal with 2 phones on the plan.
Thanks

Look into MetroPSC, around here we had good coverage and the price was reasonable.

We had good luck with WalMart's StraightTalk plan. WIth their phones, different ones work with different major carriers' towers. If you live in an area with spotty coverage for certain carriers, you can choose which would work best for you.

I don't know if this would work well for everyone but it does for us. Do you have any friends who could add you to their plan? I needed a plan while my husband had his plan paid for through work. My friend added me on to their family plan. What I pay is minimal (I'm not sure, but I think it's about $35 a month). My husband changed jobs and needed his own plan and they added him too until one of their children needed a spot on their plan. So my husband is now on the plan of another friend! We're all close friends though and it has worked for over five years for us!

I have ATT Go Phone. I get unlimited talk and text for $30 month and then recently added $5/mo data so I could do misc coupons etc. I rarely use data. They do have larger data plans if you use a lot of data, but I have been very happy with my plan. I can use wi-fi free, so the $5 data is more then enough for me. No dropped calls etc, but I guess that depends on your area. Good luck. I think phone prices have gotten ridiculous. When I was under contract, my bill was over $100/mo.

You might check out Verizon as they are restructuring their plans. We have AT&T, as does our DD, she is changing over to Verizon.

Republic Wireless You buy the phone. The cheapest is about $100. Then the plans are $10 for unlimited talk/text and only wi-fi data. It's $25 for the talk/text/data. There's no contract - you can change plans whenever you want too.

I have an iPhone5s but I am not a big data user, and the people I call / text are typically Verizon so are free. Last month I called Verizon and told them to look at my history and how little of my plan I was using each month and they changed my plan to one that more closely matched my usage, (My Plan: UNLIMITED TALK & TEXT & 1GB) and my monthly bill went down $30 from $83 to $53. It's nearly unheard of to have a smart phone plan for $50/mo but I do! Good luck!

DH has Verizon through work so I am leaning towards them, plus their coverage out here is really good. The problem is getting cheap cell phone. I don't need the latest and greatest, but would like one with a nice camera.
Has anyone ever used Gazelle to get a phone.

We switched to Straight Talk recently and are very happy with them. They have some phones on their website for free or a nominal charge. If you know what carrier is the most reliable for you (Verizon for us), we made sure the model number of the phone ended with a C. Do a google search and you can find what ones would go with AT&T towers, if that works best for you.
For smartphones, it's $45 for unlimited talk and text and 5G of data.

Straight Talk did not work for us. I actually had no signal in my house. Everyone was getting mad at me for not answering my phone.
I use a TracFone right now, but would really like a smartphone with 4G.

We have MetroPCS and are quite happy with them. When we imported our phone numbers the phones we chose were free. They have unlimited text, talk and data for $35 a month per phone.
