Just looking to see what the latest and greatest is (or the tried and true.) Anyone want to tell me what they use that works well?

I don't know about latest and greatest but I use McAfee for anti-virus and Malwarebytes (premium) for malware.
Never had any problems.

I would rather have nothing than ever put McAfee or Norton on my computer. Either AVG or Avast Free is what our tech guys recommend.

With McAfee, when you do have a problem, their solution is to have some guy you barely understand try to sell you a monthly service. They do nothing to back up their product. I had to have my computer scrubbed THREE times while using McAfee!! To be fair, I finally did get a refund (partial) from them... but what I wanted was protection

Good o know for future reference. I had one problem a couple of years ago, called Mcafee, they accessed my computer remotely and problem was solved. I think I was on the phone for a total of about 45 minutes.
My daughter's laptop had a bunch of pop ups, we ran the Malwarebytes on it and it has been great since.

I run AVG. Just about every IT person I've known says having Norton is like having a virus, it just takes over all your memory and everything. So, I was shocked last year, when I took my laptop in to get the fan repaired, and the guy wanted to upload the latest Norton. Made me wonder if he was getting some kind of kick back or something.

We pay for Kaspersky Total Security. I have the 5 device one. You can put it on android or ISO systems also. We have used up 4 of them on computers and laptops. This one includes a Money Safe program for banking and buying online. It comes with a special virtual keyboard that you can use for any passwords. The other day my son set my daughter up with a gmail and Star Trek online. He doesn't always look closely at downloads and missed unchecking that stupid Ask Toolbar. I only found out was when Kaspersky was doing a scan and found something and threw it into quarantine. So I went looking to figure out what it was. In the past version, Kasperkey didn't do this so I like that it's grabbing junk that wants to take over my internet search functions that I like. And you can take things out of quarantine and put them on safe lists if it was grabbed by accident. Though I don't know why anyone would want that stupid Ask Toolbar. This is the first time I didn't have to get rid of it myself. Awesome! There's different levels for Kaspersky depending on what you are looking for. My husband likes the Total Security because it also has the shredder so he can get rid of sensitive document. We look for sales though and never buy full price. This one is about $99 Canadian for a year and we got it for $30. It does rootkit scans also and I never notice when the scans are running in the background.
