They are starting to pop up more and more as i check out the endless stream of recipes in my inbox and facebook. i have cooked them once, when I made a Christmas dinner i liked the looks of on a Taste of Home magazine cover. Don't think i actually ate any and i don't remember why. Anybody here really in to them?

Not me at all, but my DH adores them, and when they're in season he will often boil up a couple of dozen and just eat them as a snack! He adds butter and lots of black pepper.

I think Brussels were at their peak trendiness just before kale, actually. But I think a lot of people continue to eat them because they are actually delicious when prepared well - nothing like the little balls of frozen or boiled or otherwise overcooked nastiness many of us knew (and hated) from our youth.

I don't think so because kale is disgusting and brussels sprouts are delicious.

My husband thought he hated brussel sprouts until I roasted them the first time for him. Now they are on a regular rotation for us. I also like them chopped and pan sauteed as an alternative, too.

I think Brussels sprouts have always been a common and popular food. We love them. I don't consider them 'trendy' at all.

They're disgusting but in the interest of health and clean eating, I've been known to slice them up and throw them in a stir fry. They're tolerable that way.

I don't think they're the new kale. They've always been around. My kids and I LOVE them. Ever since they were little kids brussel sprouts have been the kids favorite vegetable and they would totally pick them over any candy or sweets in the grocery store as a treat. Yum

I hope not, because they are my favorite and I hate to be trendy.
All kidding aside, roasted brussel sprouts with basalmic are the best thing ever.

I love Brussel sprouts if they are roasted. I've had them shredded in a salad and they aren't bad. But I love them roasted!!

My family has recently started enjoying brussel sprouts. Usually I roast them and sprinkle with salt and pepper. But I tried slicing them up and pan frying them with a little butter and really liked them prepared that way, too.
We don't like kale as a dish by itself. But it's yummy in soup or a quiche or casserole.

If so then I've been trendy for years. They are DELISH when roasted with a little garlic, sea salt, and olive oil. Sautéed with bacon also yummy. Love them and can eat them like candy.

I've never had a Brussels sprout that I like. I just can't get past the bitterness, even when roasted. I think it's just PTSD from the way over cooked microwaved nastiness that my mom would serve up.

We were at BJs today and they were on their featured table menu. My husband ordered them. I agree, they seem to be very popular.

I liked because I think roasted sprout goodness preceded kale trends. Lol not because of a fondness of the Birdseye version shiver And what about canned asparagus? My Grandmother would have that sometimes!

I've tried them and do not like them.
However, my husband makes the best kale 'chips' and we put kale in smoothies, of course.

I hope not.
One of my friends, who is a fabulous cook, has told me they are quite tasty. As many of you have mentioned, she prefers them roasted. I may try them if she makes them. If I have to prepare them, no way.

Nope won't eat them. They are bitter and nasty. There are so many other veggies that taste wonderful that there is no reason for me to eat brussel sprouts.
ETA: I've never eaten kale but my mother used to grow it for a landscape plant and kale is very pretty.

If they are very fresh and not overcooked, they should not be bitter.
They get bitter when they are old. Choose small, firm ones with tight leaves - preferably still on the stalk or at least freshly cut off of it. If the cut end looks dried at all, pass.

We like to slice the fresh ones thin and add to salads for crunch, not bitter tasting at all.

Except this morning, when I burned them a bit when sautéing them for a sweet potato hash.

One of my favorite vegetables along with spinach. I've always liked them even when I was little and they were horribly prepared. I like to fry them in a pan with butter and olive oil until I practically burn them. Then I add in some fresh diced garlic, salt and pepper for the last minute and eat them steaming hot...all by myself. Because no one else will eat them with me!
The only vegetable I really abhor are Lima beans. And beets. And radishes.

Brussels Sprouts seem to have been part of the food scene here forever - and people seem to either love them or detest them!
