So, I posted on our local neighborhood board that we were looking for a ramp. I ended up getting two responses; one had a 7' for $25, and another had a 5' for free. Her dog had passed away last year, and she couldn't bear to ask for any money. We went and looked at the 7' one, and it was a bit too big. We wanted to take the time to see if we could find a way to store it in the Jeep. In the meantime, we went and picked up the free one. Today, we decided to load Wili up for a quick trip to Sonic as a test to see how he would do on the ramp, and in the Jeep, since this is the first time he had ridden in anything that big. I put the ramp on the ground and had him on his leash. I had a treat in my hand, and he walked on it with no problem. The 5' ramp is a little steep, but we decided to try it anyway. I held his leash, and DH was on the other side with the treats. He walked up like a champ! He was a little nervous once he got in, but DH went around to the back side door with the treats. We put the small side of the back seat down, and DH talked him through going across the folded seat, and into his spot where he would be seatbelted in. We had the front two pieces of the top off, and the two back windows down 1/2 way. He LOVED it! He jumped out once we got home. That makes me one happy camper. Thanks for for all of the tips! Signed, One happy Jeep owner

Is your jeep really high off the ground? Our dogs just jump onto the floor board and get in our crossover vehicle. We do have a chair for our chihuahua to get on and off my daugther's bed, so I understand the risk of jumping up high and going down from a high point. I'm just curious how high your jeep is!

It's not super high, not jacked up at all, but the back is higher than the side doors. He can't jump up that way because the back doors are smaller than the front, so there's not enough room. Wili isn't a big jumper. He usually crawls onto things like the couch. He HAS jumped up on our bed a couple of times, and it's just as high as the Jeep, if not taller. The thing is, he has only done it when he was excited, or playing, and had a energetic running start. He MIGHT jump into the Jeep, but I didn't want to risk not having a second way to get him in there when I needed him to, and I don't want him scratching it all up trying to crawl in. LOL If he WANTS to jump, he's more than welcome to, but if he doesn't, I'm not picking up his 55+ lb. butt to put him in there. I just wanted back up for our trip.

The loop makes another loop around the seatbelt. So, you clip the seatbelt into place with he loop around the longest part, the clip the clip to a harness with the clip in the back. It works pretty well. It's mainly to make the seatbelt lock if you slam on the breaks. It would probably work even better with a smaller dog.

Who knew that dropping a Mustang, and adding a Jeep would LOWER our insurance by almost $200? Woohooo!

This oneThanks. Are you sure that's a safety harness meant to be used in a car? In the link, it just says it's a regular dog harness. I've done a ton of research on this and haven't found anything that I like. Most of the big dog harnesses meant to be used as a seat belt haven't been tested and the rest fail the testing miserably. For now, we just let Emma ride loose because it seems that nothing really works. There are several rated well for small dogs, though.

My parents fostered him before we brought him home, and that's what they had purchased. I just know that it works with the seat belt clip we have. His walking harness has the leash loop in the front, around his neck, so it won't work with the seat belt clip. Wili is too big to keep loose. He won't sit, or lay down the whole time, so he flops all over the place when not clipped in.

Either that or the link just didn't have all the info. This won't help you now, but when Emma was a puppy, we had someone riding in the back with her whenever we took her somewhere and wouldn't let her wander around. She's pretty funny now. For the most part, it's just her and me when she is in the van. She sits in one of the captain chairs in the middle part of the van and likes to have the window down so that she can sniff. But if there are more people in the van, she has to ride in the back. She'll give the person in her seat the stink eye and if we hop out, she will get back into "her" seat again. Dogs are creatures of habit!

I would have linked the seatbelt strap, but I haven't found the right one yet.

basket1lady, I can't find the loop clip we use. They may not make it anymore. We bought it at Petco about 2 years ago.

You are awesome! Thanks you for doing all of that research! You are so kind! It's funny, DH looks at the Clymb regularly, and he saw that and thought it looked like a good deal. I did a little research, and decided we should give it a try, since the one we have is probably not the best. I hope this one works out for you! P.S. They have them on Amazon for $22, if you decide not to sign up for the Clymb.
