You're not the only one. I didn't have any kind of childhood traumas with birthdays though. I just see it as another day. Even the "milestones". I have zero desire to celebrate them in some big way. It's just not my thing. I'm a year older and that is all. No big deal to me if others like to celebrate.

I LOVE birthdays, including my own, but I like low-key celebrations. I hate getting a birthday text. UGH. I tend to get sentimental on by b-day especially since 2011, when I was diagnosed with RA. I always think that RA is going to take me out any minute (all evidence to the contrary because my clinical trial is going fabulously well), so that's weird and I don't know why I think this, especially ON MY BIRTHDAY. I also have a tendency to focus on WHAT I HAVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED and that gets me down. SIGH. Geez, it's not for another 3 months.

Now that I'm into astrology I am more interested in certain days other than my birthday. I also celebrate my birthdays in other calendars like Mayan so I have even more days to party with So because of this expansive way of me seeing days differently my gregorian birthday just feels not so birthdayish anymore.

Funny this topic came up. I've really been dreading my birthday this year. It could be because I'm going to be 40. More likely it's because my husband isn't here to celebrate it with me. We had plans to celebrate our 40th together. My birthday is 8/28 and his was 1/28. This is my second birthday without him. (((hugs)))

I don't like it either but I wonder how I'd feel if people really took me at my word and ignored it? Hmmm. Not sure. I do take advantage of the whole "what do you want" business and have something picked out to suggest! That part's kinda great!
