I have a tea light holder on the counter and keep tea lights and a wand lighter in one of the drawers. I always keep a candle lit if we have lots of people over.
I also keep a set of cleaning supplies in that bathroom. If I want to wipe off the mirror quickly or wipe down the counter, etc., I don't have to go find stuff to clean with. So I have a roll of paper towels, glass cleaner, counter spray, and disposable toilet scrubby things, etc. in the cabinet under the sink.

Sorry for the hi-jack OP........But is a half bath a bathroom without a bath? What's the difference between that and a cloakroom which just has a loo and a basin?

I keep the cleaning supplies under the sink. I keep the extra rolls of toilet paper in one of the drawers. The other drawer is empty. My half bath also has a medicine cabinet which is empty.

Sorry for the hi-jack OP........But is a half bath a bathroom without a bath? What's the difference between that and a cloakroom which just has a loo and a basin? We don't keep cloaks in it. Yes, it's just a toilet and sink. Also called a powder room, sometimes. A 3/4 bath would also have a shower stall without a tub (though sometimes,a master bath will have a larger shower with no tub).

I'm going to start calling mine a cloak room. I don't use the word cloak nearly enough.

I would probably keep a mini first aid kit, some tampons, and maybe a dop kit in there for guests use.

I have: extra soaps (I like to pick up fancy soaps now and then) nailpolish supplies since I usually do my nails at the kitchen table batteries (it seemed like a good place for them at the time) extra hairbrush, hair scrunchies, lipstick so I can freshen up without going upstairs
Pretty much anything you want!

Tooth brush and paste? We did that for years when the other bathrooms were upstairs. Don't worry. You'll fill them up.

my half bath vanity doesn't have drawers so I put a small plastic sterilite thing in it. Holds odd and ends...bandaids, dental floss etc.

Hijacking again, I guess, but I always thought a cloak room was a "coat" room or what I might call a mud room. A place to hang coats, jackets, and boots.

I leave it empty because that's where the cat hides when we have company.

I'm assuming this is a main floor bathroom.
In our main floor bathroom we keep little things that no one wants to run upstairs for if they are in the family room/kitchen like dental floss, bandaids, nail kit, hairbands, sunscreen, etc.

Sorry for the hi-jack OP........But is a half bath a bathroom without a bath? What's the difference between that and a cloakroom which just has a loo and a basin? That explains a lot. When I read British novels, I often wonder why houses in the UK always seemed to have entire coat rooms instead of front closets. I'm glad you asked the question!

when I was growing up. I went to school in an old building. we had a cloakroom in every class room..it was a long long hall with hooks for your coats..and a place to put overshoes and other stuff. no backpacks in those days.

I've never heard the term cloakroom used this way. I'm guessing it's a language difference. You call it a cloakroom (why?). We call it a half bath.

Here in the midwest we'd call a half bath one with just a toilet and sink. Full bath has the shower/tub. However, I'm going to refer to it as a cloakroom as DH and I are house hunting right now cause that's a word that needs to be used.

OP, if guests will be using it, I stock things they might need but be embarrassed to ask for - tampons, pepto or Imodium, tums, Advil, band aids.

I always wondered why you called it a half bath when there wasn't a bath (even half of one) in there! Now I understand.

So where do you keep your cloaks or coats? What room is that called? When I was in school, well elementary school, the communal room where we hung our coats was called the cloak room. I've always thought that that was the name of that room... not a loo.

We keep ours in cupboards in the porch - not to be confused with an American porch Here a porch is the room just inside the front door, although not all houses have them. The word cloakroom would also be used as a coat storage room but more likely in a public building rather than a home.

I just did a bit of googling, because I wanted to know the origin of the British use of cloakroom for a bathroom... I didn't find much, but it did say it's considered more polite than 'toilet' so perhaps it's the British equivalent of the US word 'restroom' ?? Because you're not really doing any 'resting' when you go to the restroom, either...
(I went to a really old school that had the cloakroom / hallway area for hanging you coat, where you put your lunchbag, etc. I always thought it was really cool!!
