We had the insurance adjuster out on Monday to look at our roof. I was sure they would decline the claim because our roof is almost 22 years old, even though our roofer was certain they would pay. They ARE going to pay for a new roof. The first check should be here by tomorrow. I still can't believe it. We have replacement value coverage, so it is only costing our $500 deductible plus as extra $400 to upgrade to architectural shingles. They send a check out minus the depreciated value and deductible, and when you send in proof that the roof was actually replaced, they send you the check for the depreciated value.
We had been saving for a new roof, because we knew we would need one within the next five years, so I was able to use that money to pay my husband's medical bills. This way they are paid, and we don't have it hanging over us. If we get a settlement, the money will replace what we took out. The only one we haven't paid is the ambulance, because I am still disputing the increase in charges from basic service $504 to Advanced Life Support charges $814 after they were given our insurance info. They said I will find out what they decide by the end of Sept.
DD is still dating the older man, but she signed up for 2 college classes on Monday and I am thrilled about it. She dropped out last spring 4 classes shy of her AA degree and I honestly thought she was never going back.
I will update about DH's hand, when we hear whether they are going to offer a settlement.

Well it sounds like things are looking up. Glad they covered your roof for you. It can be just overwhelming when so much happens so fast. Glad it is turning around.

Thanks everyone. I was so relieved. My summer officially ended on Monday when the kids went back to school, so hopefully my bad luck ended with the summer.

Isn't it a relief when things finally begin turning around. Glad to hear that is happening for you. I hope the ambulance bill works out favorably too.
