I have to say that I have blocked a member who is always nasty, not to me, but to anyone who crosses her path. This member seldom has anything pleasant to say and I always wondered why they bother posting but they do and their posts would make me so tense. I come her for enjoyment and conversation and generally find both . I never knew you could block a member's posts until the whole Elannah mess so for me, if anything positive came from that train wreck of a posting, it is that I can take control of what I see other than simply avoiding posts that have the offensive name showing. Have any of you felt the need to do this or were even aware that you could? On the other side, there are some members that I always know will make me smile and I wish I could have a bigger like button.

I did know that you could do it but I never have. I have only once had anything unpleasant directed at me as far as I remember, and that person isn't on this board.
There are one or two posters who I don't enjoy reading but I just ignore them now. I vowed never to respond to one in particular and I just let her predictable drivel go over my head quite easily now that I don't engage.

I would think that anyone who was nasty enough that I would feel the need to block them is going to be quoted ad nauseum anyway, so what's the point?

I did recently find out that we can not only block posts but entire threads! That's an interesting little feature.

I don't have anyone blocked. I just had a negative comment on a thread I started yesterday, but I decided to just ignore it and consider the vile and pathetic source.

On the old board I had someone blocked. Here I just scroll through or ignore posts they've started. If someone quotes them, as will happen, then blocking is useless anyway.

I have a couple people blocked for their inability to write coherent responses and actually answer questions posed to them instead of blindly sticking to their conservative talking points. It's pointless though, they get quoted constantly because they can't stop saying stupid talking point bullshit.

I'm going to admit right here in front of everyone that I'm way too curious to block anyone! I'd rather scroll past the stupid shit than risk missing anything. (ETA I mean in threads I've been reading/posting. I don't go into every thread, but I do like to read all the posts in threads that have sucked me in.)
One reason I come here is to be entertained and, as bad as it makes me sound, the stupid and/or mean posts tend to be the most entertaining, if only because of the resulting shit storm.
I don't approve of the mean posts at all, but I do enjoy reading the posts that ridicule the mean person. This is where I first read the terms asshat and douchewaffle, after all.

I just look past them. Usually I laugh at how ridiculous their comments are Like seriously, the "snort and choke" kind of laugh!

IRL I wouldn't hang around negative/nasty people, but on the board I can't remember who is who so this way it tells me that person's post is not worth my time. It may be quoted, and then I get confused wondering who said that and why I didn't see it, then I scroll up and discover yep that's the missing post that isn't worth getting riled up over because that's their mo. Unfortunately when I come to the board on my phone, when looking at the main board it doesn't tell me who started a thread so I often click into a thread by an unstable poster who starts a zillion threads and think opps and back out.

I have two people blocked so I don't get tempted to reply to them since it always ends up in an argument with no value. They are both quoted, so I do see what they say, but I don't get sucked into replying to them directly.

I am thinking that most of us that are admitting to having someone blocked, has that same person. So here is MY question...WHY do so many respond positively to HER threads?

No clue who everyone is talking about. LOL Go figure.
I don't block anyone.
Just for kicks - if someone blocks you, does that mean you (the person who is blocked) can't see what they post as well?

I was aware that people could be blocked but I've never done that. These people get quoted so many times that it would be difficult not to see their posts on a thread....and I'm now getting quite good at knowing which posts or threads I should not read!

I haven't blocked anyone so far. As has been said, what would be the point as their posts would be rehashed until the cows come home.

I would think that anyone who was nasty enough that I would feel the need to block them is going to be quoted ad nauseum anyway, so what's the point? That's totally true. I blocked one person for a while, just because I was sick of their BS. But they were quoted so much by others, that it was completely pointless.

cindyupnorth - I guess just like life, people have different opinions, viewpoints and tolerances. I know the posters that I have seriously different world views from. But sometimes I totally agree with them. I don't typically see eye to eye with pjaye, but I love her avatar so I find myself liking her anyway! :-) Plus I was totally onboard with her on the Elanna train wreck.

What is the difference between blocking a thread and just not clicking on it? People have different levels of being able to ignore something. If a thread title truly bothers someone, then if blocking it helps them enjoy their time here, so be it. I didn't mean it with any snark - I'm truly curious. Does it not show up in the list at all? What happens? I didn't know you could do this and am wondering how it works.

I don't think so. I have several people blocked and one of them responded to one of my threads. I couldn't see what it said though. Just their name and then the blocked user message you get.

Even the post by Elannah that went south reminded me of some good old drama even though I was flinching a bit.
I take the good with the bad and scroll right on by. Sometimes I am the one with something mean to say but I try to balance it out.

Ok. I'll admit I'm clueless. I've looked everywhere.
How do I block someone and how do I block a thread?
With an election coming up, I'm guessing the ability to block may come in very handy.

Click on the members name it will take you to a profile page, in the top right hand corner is a symbol like a cog. Click on it and the option to block is there.

No, I've never blocked anyone on here yet!!
I do have a filter in my mind on who's posts I actually read because I know it will be either argumentative or downright rude. The reputation of some posters precedes them so I just roll on by!! The wacko and the b***s*** posts, well they can be quite entertaining but I usually end up rolling my eyes and saying "Really?"

I have 2 people blocked. Each are blocked for a different reason. Mostly it is just because their life is too drama filled or chaotic. Also some people share TMI, and I am not talking about gross stuff. I am talking about too much about their lives in general. I just don't need all that info cluttering up my brain. Some people I simply don't enjoy their threads so I don't open them.

I don't have anyone blocked on this board.
Fortunately, the people I had blocked on 2 Peas don't seem to frequent this board.

I have one person blocked here who I blocked on the old board because not seeing her smug nastiness improves my experience. I find it much easier to ignore her and refrain from responding when she's quoted. I dont know why that is and don't care either.
