Link to story"The Ashley Madison hack has revealed a lot of interesting things about the men who used the extramarital-dating site, including which cities, states, and universities they're from. But what about the women? It turns out, there may not have been very many women. As in, almost none. Gizmodo editor-in-chief Annalee Newitz analyzed the data from the site's user database and found a lot of suspicious stuff suggesting that nearly all the female accounts were fake, maintained by the company's employees. First, the official numbers. The info that the hackers published contained about 31 million accounts apparently belonging to men, and about 5 million apparently belonging to women. But when Newitz dug deeper, she found a bunch of test accounts that ended with ashleymadison.com, suggesting that they were created internally (90% of them were for women), as well as 350 female accounts for people with the same and very unusual last name. Then she found three really damning pieces of data: Only 1,492 of the women in the database had ever opened their inbox to check their messages on the site. That's compared with more than 20 million men. Only 2,409 of the women had ever used the site's chat function, versus more than 11 million men. Only 9,700 of the women had ever responded to a message from another person on the site, versus almost 6 million men. (This number was greater than the number of women who checked messages because it's possible to answer messages in bulk when you first visit the site, without ever opening your inbox.) It's possible that most of the women signed up but never did anything. Either way, Newitz writes, Ashley Madison is a site where tens of millions of men write mail, chat, and spend money for women who aren't there." The site's parent company, Avid Life Media, did not immediately return a request for comment." Good lord men, stop being so gullible!!

SUCKERS!!!! hahahahahahaha....... Reminds me of men calling 900 numbers who think they are talking to the seductive looking scantily clad women in the photo ads but are really talking to overweight, out-of-shape grandmotherly types.

I dont know what I was thinking, but when i asked my husband if there were women on the site, he laughed and said of course there are. For some reason.... it didnt register in my mind that women would be on there too..I guess, as a woman, if i wanted to cheat, that website would be the last place i would think about going. ... but i guess i was right! Women do not need that site.... lol! I sent my dh the link above.. I guess the site was just selling the "idea" of cheating! Men can be so stupid.

So who the heck were all those men chatting with? Those same 2,409 women? Other men?

Okay so now, like in the case of that Real Housewife of New York, Kristin's husband. He was outed having an account and he had a pretty specific profile of who he was looking for/what he wanted. He spent several thousand dollars.
I'm stumped, why would he spend so much money just to chat with someone? And then, who were they chatting with? It would have had to have been video, no? Surely, there was payoff for him somewhere?
There has got to be more to this. I mean, are these assholes now going to try and claim innocence now because of this new news?

I imagine they were paying to send messages to women in "their area" but they were either really AM employees or people who signed up and never responded. I doubt many men actually got laid on that site. Think about it, AM was actually a SERVICE to wives of cheating men. Get them all geeked up and then they didn't get anything. lol.

IIRC that was the reason they were hacked in the first place, that is, it was a scam. The women 'signed up' were fake accounts.
It's hard to believe that many men, including prominent figures, were that stupid.

There's a lot of men who paid money for something...
My hairdresser told me there's one package you can purchase that guarantees you will have an affair within 30 days or you get your money back.
I have a list of the users in MS and it's crazy. The husband of my daughter's kindergarten teacher is on it. The mother of my friend's flower girl is on it. As one of my coworkers said - Church is going to be really awkward Sunday morning!

What I don't get is the repeat offenders.
I mean, like Kristin's husband from RHONY, why would he pay to belong and spend thousands on two different accounts if there was no payoff? I mean, all he did was exchange..chats? Really?
Say you are looking to hook up in real life, how long do you continue with this site with nothing to show for it? THese are some patient men. Huh.

how did you get a list for your state? RhonditoI'm totally nosey. Someone put together a list and posted it online over the weekend. It's now been taken down but a friend saved it and emailed it to me. Because I'm just as nosey! LOL I can't begin to say how f-'d up it is though. People using their real names, or their real names are part of their email address; one guy's email was "madisonsdad@whatever.com" Really? One of the engineers we work with used his work email address. Not to mention all the street addresses...

I read an article on CNN about a lady who was a member and was fearful that she'd be losing her job if her work email that she used was made public. She said that she was having affairs with several men.
So, maybe the few women that were on were very active?

So this boils down to this. If you were a horny chick, you could get laid 7 times a day on this site. It's kinda like living in Alaska. You don't lose your wife, you just lose your turn. LOL

Wasn't there a affair guarantee? Here is a link to their "guarantee". www.ashleymadison.com/app/public/guarantee/detailsform.p
You must first must do a certain number of things that of course cost $$ each month for three months. Then you must file for the refund, which will not be credited to your credit card but rather sent you your home, with Ashley Madison clearly imprinted on the check and I am sure envelope and they state this. I doubt many people read the whole thing before shelling out $250.
Other internet speculation is that the $250 paid for the guarantee was used to send an "escort" your way to satisfy their end if necessary.
But with their refund check only policy, I doubt they had to ever go that far, I imagine many snookered men just quietly back away.

From the "refund application" tab of the above linked site. "If you have complied with the above requirements, please fill out the fields below to submit the following application for your refund. Your application will be reviewed by our Customer Services Manager and if it is determined that you have complied with the above requirements, we will mail you a REFUND CHECK for the original purchase (plus any applicable taxes) within 6-8 weeks of receiving your application. Please note that your refund check will state that it is from "Ashley Madison." "

A woman who used to work for the company was suing the company for carpal tunnel syndrome or something like that because she had to create at least 1,000 fake profiles a day for their website. She got injured because she had to keep clicking the same information for all these fake female profiles. What a racket that was.

I know women cheat. Not going to pretend that they don't, but I often tell my husband when I go off on a girls' weekend or am at a friend's scrapping for the day that one man is plenty for me. Who has time for that nonsense? I worked at a community college before I had kids and was hit on more than once. In my head, it was never ever a consideration. Having been married for 28 years I do know that I made a great decision. It is nice to have someone you can count on and trust that you have a history with. Plus having two adults around to raise teen boys kept me out of the orange jumpsuit.

I would love just to be able to search by zip codes... I don't think Rondtito will be sharing the link for the list so we all cma be nosy and search for names.... Ashley Madison has kept most "links" down pretty fast by threatening to sue the site owner for copyright violation. If you are really interested your best bet is to google and risk getting a virus or other maleware. This is one time the peas likely won't be able to post a viable link.
