I had to go to Staples this afternoon to pick up some office supplies. When I came out of the store I noticed a car a few spaces up from mine that had a dog in the front seat. The front windows were rolled up but the 2 back windows were each down about 2 inches. I had no idea how long the dog had been in the car but it was 81 degrees today - not exactly dog friendly car weather. I went back into Staples to ask the manager to make an announcement to have the owner come let the dog out.
In the mean time I went back outside to check on the dog. A few minutes go by and still no owner. I go back into the store but didn't see the manager that I had initially spoken with. There was however another manager at the front of the store so I explain the situation again. He asked me which car, etc., and ended up walking outside with me to check it out. He then said that I could leave and that he would check on the dog in 10-15 minutes! I kid you not! (dude, it is 80+ degrees out here with no shade!) I said "No way - please go make another announcement and if no one comes out right away, please call the police, it's way too hot for this dog to be trapped in the car" (the one time I didn't have my cell phone with me - I had left it charging on my desk in my office)
Manager goes back into the store and shortly after that a lady comes out. I am not a confrontational person by any stretch of the imagination, I was polite, etc. but I did say that I was the one that was worried about the dog being in a roasting car.
Her reply to me was "he's fine, he's from Africa, he can handle the heat" Wait what? Seriously??? Good Lord have mercy. And with that, she drove off.
What an idiot.

Oh my freaking gosh, are you kidding me?! "He's from Africa"? So I guess dogs in Africa are so used to the heat that they've acclimatized and their entire bodies somehow work differently than dogs from American dogs. I'm being sarcastic here, by the way if you can't tell. I wonder if she meant he's an African breed of if she imported him from Africa? Just wondering what would cause someone to think that. What a complete idiot!

Ugh some people are not fit or meant to be pet owners!!!
I had a similar experience on our holiday to the states this summer my hubby came to pick me up from Joanne's and when I came outside he said he had been parked there 15 minutes and the car across the way had a dog in it with all the windows rolled up. The temp said it was 34 celcius!
I went back into the store and told the clerk what was going on and she said to just call 911 which I did who then connected me with a dog welfare place can't remember the name of it and they said they would send someone right away 15 mins later still no owner, no rescuer so I went back in the store and in the meantime called again and someone else in the parking lot called as well. I ask the clerk to please make an exception and call out the license plate and car description because the dog is in distress and it has been at least a 30 mins (maybe more because my hubby didn't know how long the car had been there before he arrived to pick me up) and a lady up at the counter says what car are you talking about and I tell her and she nonchalantly says that is my car. I said pardon me that is your car do you realize how hot it is outside and that your dog is in a vehicle with the windows rolled up, are you crazy do you not realize how hot it is outside!1 She says he is fine he has water. I said OMG so that makes it alright to do that to him. You do realize the water will be hot and that his body is shutting down from your treatment of him. She said it wasn't a big deal and I lost it!! I said you don't deserve to own a dog or any other animal and how about I lock you up in that damned car for 30 plus minutes and see how long you last before you unroll a window which your dog doesn't have the damned luxury of doing. In the meantime a lady in the line up yells at me good for you and you need to call 911. I said already did it and then looked at the dipshit dog owner and said they have your license and car description.
She then nonchalantly came out of the store and got in and drove away as other lady who had called yelled at her lol. She didn't even undo the windows once she got in!!! The rescue person rolled up about 10 minutes later and I went and told him what her response was to my concern. He said she would get a letter in the mail ugh that's it geez I think in Alberta you get more then a damned fricking hand slap. I said to him and my hubby in all likely hood that wasn't even her first stop today and she probably does this all the time. I said hopefully the next time she does it the dog won't die ugh!

I wouldn't waste time trying to find the owner by going into the store. I would wait maybe five minutes and if no one came out I would call the police right away and tell them that if no one gets there within ten minutes or so, I'm going to break out the window myself--and then do it. People can be SO stupid!
