Thinking of opening an etsy store to sell my jewelry.
Is it worth it to you? What are the costs involved and what percentage of your sales do they take?
Thanks

Is it worth it? Boy that's a loaded question First of all, I don't sell jewelry but from what I understand that's a very saturated market and can be hard to sell in. Hopefully someone else will have more input on that. Fees wind up being about 10% once you figure in the listing fee (0.20), seller fee (I think .30 + 2.9%), and paypal or etsy payment fee. Here's a calculator that will help: salecalc.com/etsyI guess it depends on what you want for it. Do you have a ton of spare time and want to just keep busy and make a little money? Sure. Do you want to turn it into a part-time/full-time business? As long as you have the time to dedicate to it it's possible but don't quit your day job, literally! Just want to get rid of some of your supplies? Probably not worth it. It takes a lot of time and effort, it's not like ebay where you just list stuff every spring after you clean out the closet, consistency is key on Etsy.

Jewellery is hard to sell on Etsy.
There are so many people and listings that it's near impossible to get noticed. Having a very unique product helps, but the people I know who have made a good go of it are exceptional social media users. They have well read blogs that feed their etsy shop, collaborate with other bloggers, use Facebook and Instagram well and have lots of friends and followers. You have to have great and eye catching photos as well.
As for if its worth it, it never was for me. My cost of production was just too high and fees and shipping and admin just ate up the profit I made. I only had a shop to pay for my fabric addiction though- my deal with my husband was I would sell enough to break even the amount of fabric I bought, LOL.
