I just bought a new HP laptop from Walmart. It is driving me batty!! My old laptop (which crashed after loading Windows 10) used Vista and was fairly easy to use. I am totally lost with this computer!!! I am trying to upload photos from a SD card and can not figure out how!!! This computer has Windows 8 (or what ever was before Windows 10). I am not used to using apps for things on the computer and need help!! I do have an Iphone and I am just as lost with that stupid thing as well. Have I mentioned that I am computer challenged lately? LOL!!!

Hi, Sherri: I hope the following helps you.
For iPhone and other cameras, Windows 8 and 8.1 will read them only as any drive. Do the following for your iPhone: (1) Connect your iPhone to your PC, turn it on and go to your photos. (2) On your PC keyboard, press the windows logo and the letter E at the same time. (3) The folder called "This PC" will open. (This used to be called My Computer in the earlier Windows operating systems.) (4) Look at Devices and Drives, You should see the drive called Apple iPhone or something similar with the Apple name. (5) Click on that drive and you will see a folder called DCIM. (6) Open DCIM and you should see your various picture folders. From there you can open each picture folder and copy the pics to your PC or just look at them, or whatever you wish.
I have not done an SD card in Windows 8.1, but I will bet the procedure is very much the same.
Good luck!
Liz

Assuming the photos are in your phone try downloading dropbox on it and the computer. You can set it to automatically sync to the computer when on wifi. Then the photos just appear in your dropbox folder and you can move them where you want.

That's why I'm still using my crappy laptop with Windows 8. I just don't want to hassle learning Windows 10.

You don't have to use apps at all on Windows 8. I know I sure don't. Just click on the desktop icon and you're back to the very familiar Windows screen you are used to. There's a folder down at the bottom for "This PC", you can click that and see all your attached drives. So if your camera is plugged in it will show up there, or if you have an SD card slot you're using you'll see the card there. You can then use your image files as you normally would.

Is it 8 or 8.1?
8.1 has a desktop icon that is down in the bottom left of the apps area. It takes you to a place that is more like a normal page. Then in my bar there is a file folder that is used like my computer, I would get them from there.
Window buttton and x at the same time will bring up a menu that is as close to a start menu as you can get.
