Do you participate in any swap groups? I was at a crop Saturday and the lady next to me participates in only 10 or 11 swaps for month! She actually keeps a spreadsheet to keep all the details straight. And she was swapping things I never even heard of. I'm guess I'm behind the times! What our page pals?
Years ago I participated in swaps, but I got tired of people who slapped things together or flaked altogether! And I really don't like to use other people's materials. I like to use the stuff that I have made so they know it was truly made by me even if somebody else's stuff is better!
Do you participate in swaps? Do you use the things you've received?

I participated in a recipe swap on the old board. So much fun and people made the most beautiful 6x6 recipe cards!

Years ago I did a 6x6 recipe swap. The layouts I got were so cheesy that it really turned me off of swaps. They obviously used old scraps and maybe put a brad on it. I had spent so much time trying to fit layers and sewing and embellishments and the recipe that I was too disappointed to try again. I've seen some great swaps on YouTube, though, so I know people are having lots of fun with them and getting great stuff.

I was in a few swaps years ago for swapping embellies of different sorts- ribbons, inchies, color swaps, etc. I tried a few, but so often someone would send something that was terribly made, not in keeping with the rules of the swap, etc. I wasn't worth my postage money to keep doing them.
I'd love to do a Project Life swap, since the cards are small and easy to mail.

I participated in swaps on the old board, too. I really enjoyed learning some new things and getting to know other Peas, but some of the items I got in return were really bad. Then there were the sorry flaker excuses. For the effort I put in, I would have rather kept all of the items I made for myself. I would totally do it again with a group that I knew were dedicated crafters, because some of the things I got back were really great.

I used to do a lot of swaps but found I was super disappointed in a lot of the stuff I got back. The 2 exceptions to this was the recipe card swap I did several times and purse charm swaps I was in. All the rest really sucked and seemed like swappers just slapped shit together and used their oldest most outdated crap they could find in their scrap room ugh.
Yeah so no more swaps for me and besides all that it was super expensive to ship stuff too.

I've had the same experience in swaps, I'd spend a lot of time making things, but I would get back junk. It was so disappointing. It could be fun if everyone was willing to put some effort into their work.

Yes, I participated in the 2Peas swap board, and still do some of the swaps with the groups that continued on. I also have done lots of non 2Peas related swaps over the years, either with groups or one-on-one.
It is disappointing when you get something not so great back, but the groups I participate in are open to all skill levels and styles. For gift swaps, minimum budgets are set so that most everybody can participate. Some swaps I get a "WOW" project or package in return, some swaps I get a "meh" one. I'm sure I've sent out my fair share of "meh" over the years because my style of crafting is very simple, so I take it as it goes. I put swapping on hold for a while after I got flaked on twice in a row, but decided to go back to it with the mind set of not expecting anything in return, and being pleasantly surprised when I get something good.
I got invited to submit an application for a private ATC swap group that adds new members at certain points over the year, but I haven't decided yet whether or not I want to do it because it requires committing to attending their physical meetings and they meet in a town close to an hour away from me.
It's fun to do though. I like when it's a project I haven't ever done before because it challenges me. I just started swapping pocket letters and have really enjoyed that.

not in years - I participated in a few back when Lifetime Moments was still around (paper piecings anyone?) but not since then. I enjoyed it and did use some of what I got back but in general, my style is pretty simple and not trendy and thus not a good fit for swapping. Also my budget is pretty limited and postage and supplies can get expensive.
I think my favourite swap was a 6x6 calendar swap - we all did a month.

I used to do quite a bit. I was in an ATC swap but it wasn't run very well and then I had family issues so I dropped and ended up getting most of my stuff back because of so many people not following through with the commitment.

I am a member of a Card Club where we each make 8 identical cards and then meet to swap with each other. We also assign someone to teach a new technique that can be used on cards or scrapping. It's a fun night out once a month. We have 2 members who are artists, so we get some really nice cards.

I participated in a few years ago on the old board. The ones I enjoyed most were exchanging photos and making pages for someone else. It encouraged me to really step up and do my very best. I only did 2 but I got really nice pages back.
I remember one in which we exchanged Wallies!
It took me a long time to use those.

I once participated in a embellishment swap. Not handmade stuff, but actual manufacturer embellistments. Bits and pieces of items you had left over. While I realized it would be unwanted items by the other swappers, I figured some of it would be fun to get. However, most was stuff I did not want either. Sooooooo not worth my time or trouble.

When I first started scrapping I joined a lot of embellishment swaps where you purchased the items new and split them amongst all the participants. Example - you would buy a package of black brads, split up you package into smaller amounts, send them to the host, and you would get back small amounts of brads of every color. It was a good way to build a stash. I also participated in a 6x6 calendar swap that was great, lots of recipe swaps, and one year a 6x6 Father's Day book swap. I also tried my hand at ATCs a few times. I haven't swapped in ages, but in the past I mostly had good experiences.

I'm active in some FB group swaps. Mostly Pocket Letters but recently I did a shadow box tag swap and a altered bag swap. I'm not picky on what I get back I guess im just thankful that I got something and didn't get flaked on. I have heard some really bad stories from others.
A fb group friend of mine has sent off 145 pocket letters in the past few months and she has only received 42 in return. Sucks all that time and money spent for her.

I think I've taken part in one over the years. I've seen them offered more recently but I'm international so postage costs make it uneconomic. Plus, I'd rather just make something I want from the outset

I do not participate in swaps. I would be one of the people who would do something shoddy. My stuff is just not good that way unless I did something like a page swap with a theme.

Like tracyarts, I participated in the 2Peas swap board a couple of times a year, and have done a few with the facebook groups that continued on. My favorite swap is an 8x8 calendar swap and I did that one every year. Card swaps are fun too. For items that get used on projects, well, sometimes you just have to realize that you won't get to use every thing you get back because of everyone's style is different and their levels of expertise are different. I think it's a great learning tool and don't worry about it when I join in. Hopefully when my kids are grown I'll have more time to swap as I could see joining in more often then.

I had just done my first two swaps (tags and altered paper clips) right before 2Peas shut down. I'd been looking at pics of completed swaps for a while and wanting to join in, but was intimidated so I waited for swaps that both accepted newbies and also seemed like good "starter" swaps. I really enjoyed the experience and would love to do it again sometime. Someone sent me a link to a Facebook group where some of the former 2Peas hostesses planned to continue swapping, but I lost the link before I had a chance to sign up.
