I DO think it's funny how you resisted handing over the coupon. And with her repeatedly trying to take it!

I don't like people in my personal bubble, so NO, I don't think you're overreacting about that; I would have done the same thing. That was weird.
And as for the coupon? If it didn't have an expiration date printed on it, they SHOULD have honored it. I don't care whether it was a mistake on their part or not! It was a valid coupon as far as you're concerned, it was their error, and she should have let you use it. We've had the same thing happen to us a couple times at a local pizza restaurant-- the coupon states one price, and when we get there, we're told 'oh, the prices changed between then and today.' Tough sh!t! The coupon is still in date, so you should take it! The manager had to come out for that one, but they did end up taking the coupon.

Bat-shit crazy & not a business I would frequent any longer. This! In my area there's a yogurt shop on every corner. I'd never frequent that place again.

It was YOUR coupon. If you gave it up for the discount then it would become HER coupon. If you can't use it it is still YOUR coupon. Up to you what you wish to do with it. I would contact corporate and ask if the coupon wasn't supposed to be honored.

Put me squarely in the "Never going back THERE again!" camp. I'm a business owner too, and I would never treat a customer so rudely. That kind of stuff always comes back around to bite you, so as much as I would hate that my screwed up coupons are floating around I wouldn't go to that extreme to get one of them back. I would have honored it to make the customer happy. In fact, I would be glad you had it because it obviously got you back in the door (at least subliminally) and isn't that what you WANT your advertising to do? A lot of times, I hang onto stuff like that even if it is expired because it has the address and/or phone number of the business on it and I keep way too much of that junk in my purse for future reference!

I would have left too! I can't believe she would risk loosing customers (you and others you may relay your story to) over a free 4 oz. I have never had that happen before, and I would be angry too.

I don't like when strangers get into my personal space and grabbing something out of your hand certainly qualifies. I would have left also and wouldn't patronize the business. I have a feeling it won't last long with that odd behavior.

She should have honored the coupon. Taking it out of your hands? I wouldn't be going back. Plenty of other options for frozen yogurt.

I really wouldn't have cared if the sale was over and the coupon wasn't valid anymore. Not that big a deal. But man, grabbing it out of your hand and hassling you like that. I probably wouldn't go back either. We have about 20 different froyo places nearby. I wouldn't go back to one where I felt uncomfortable. I wouldn't care enough to call or let them know why I wasn't going back, I'd just switch froyo stores.

Bat-shit crazy & not a business I would frequent any longer. Exactly this! There's no way I'd ever go there again. And she just got way more than $1.60 worth of bad publicity. Dumb, dumb business move.

How weird! I kind of love that you didn't give her the coupon. I probably would have been so shocked that I would have handed it over!

I probably would have reacted the same way. If she had just said.. sorry that promotion is over there was a mistake and there is not an expiration date on the coupon.
I would have been okay. But the minute she got grabby, I'd been like OH NO I want my discount! Ha! But probably would have left in those circumstances.

while I find it mildly rude, I wouldn't be overly upset about it. she mentioned it was supposed to have an expiration date and didn't-she may have been inundated with these coupons and was super stressed out about getting them out of circulation. to you, it's just $1.60 but multiply that times a lot more people, for a struggling business owner it probably really sucked to deal with. Not to mention some folks probably gave her a really hard time.
I think she was flustered and stressed-definitely not the way she should be treating people but I wouldn't be very upset by it either.

Was it the owner/manager or an employee. Something just seems off with her behavior. Very off and underhanded. She wanted that coupon out of your hand for a reason. She had already told you it wasn't valid, so the only other reason is because it was valid, but they were tired of losing money on the coupon, or over printed or something to that effect, if she wasn't the owner/manager I would have asked to speak to them. Having been a store manager in a previous life, I know what I expected of myself and my staff when it came to customer service. So I expect the same when I go into other stores. I don't tolerate bad customer service and will always say something.
For instance, up until 2010 I believe, it was against contractual agreements for owners to require a minimum purchase for use with a credit card. They could have lost the ability to accept whichever card it was for that. I know because we had to accept even 25 cent charges before. So I used to point this out all the time. If I only want to spend 5 dollars, that's all I'm going to spend. You can take my five dollars or not get any of it. Most people are not familiar with this, but are smart enough to take the charge. Even with the laws changing in 2010, those changes ONLY apply to credit cards and not to debit cards. It is still against contractual and legal agreements to require a minimum purchase on a debit card.
I also wonder how false advertising would come into play. IF the coupon wasn't valid, and they knew the issue, and didn't post anything in the store about it. I know I wouldn't have accepted their word that it was no longer valid.

she sounds a little nut-so. I wouldn't have liked anyone grabbing it out of my hands either. But I wouldn't have expected to use the discount if they said it was expired. Where did you get the coupon?
In our town, a lot of places advertise on Groupon, then they are quick to not honor them. So we almost expect it when we see those.

I don't think you did. The owner/worker crossed the line when she tried to remove it from your hand.

It's an odd scenario. I am thinking that maybe she was forced to honor a lot of those coupons and took a hit financially, and is a little over zealous now in her effort not to honor any more. Maybe she thought she could preempt the whole tendering of the coupon by being proactive? At any rate, without an expiration date it is still a valid coupon, and it's not okay she made multiple attempts to take the coupon from you. That said, there HAS to be a reason for her behavior... and my guess is she's losing $ because of the misprint.

What in the hell is wrong with people??? No, you didn't overreact. I would be splashing that all over FB, but I'm vindictive like that.
