I am finally breaking down and getting my two oldest phones, but I just want a bare bones phone that only receives calls and texts. I don't want a browser or anything else. My DH doesn't want something that requires a contract... My daughter has a Prepaid phone that she never uses because it doesn't have a Qwerty keyboard and it takes too long to type on.
Does a phone like this exist? I have googled and checked at stores without any luck.

Have you looked at used phones? those used to be pretty common. We have two in our home for younger kids and I'm not giving them up. It's pretty easy to port phones these days. As long as the phone uses the same tower network (GSM or CDMA depending on the company you are using) and will take a SIM card, you should be able to use it with any carrier you choose.
Just with a quick search, I was able to find a few on Amazon. just search for "slider" phones.

I was just researching this for my in-laws as they don't want a data plan. I found a few phones at Walmart through their StraightTalk pre-paid plan. Here's one: QWERTY phoneI think it's what you're looking for?

Check Amazon. That's where I got my dd her phone like that about a year ago. It's for tracfone and she has really liked it. It doesn't slide out, but has a touch screen that you can bring up a qwerty keyboard on. She's at school right now, but I'll try to remember to look at it when she gets home so I can tell you the brand.

My DH has a Blackberry and does not have a data plan, so his BB is used only for phone calls and texts.

Okay, so I'm poking around Amazon and all of the prepaid sliders say that they have a web browser, and that if you accidentally push the button it eats up your minutes...
I am admittedly very stupid about cell phones... But if they have a web browser, that means they can access the web, right? I'm just not finding anything without it. My kids don't need web, they just need to text me and let me know where they are and when to pick them up.

I use my iphone on the $10 / month pay as you go plan. I can access the internet when I'm home as it uses wifi then. I don't think I can access data at all, as it is not part of my plan. I only use it for calls and texts.

Perfect timing. We're pretty much looking for the same options here. I'm glad you posted this.

I just remembered that the LG500 does have a browser. Not a normal one but it does have internet which will use up minutes. It's not possible to disable the browser on it.

We only want text & phone abilities - so we had the provider block data from their end. So he cannot text photos (yay). He can get on the internet with wifi access, but data is unavailable to him. We actually did this for DH as well - the touch screen phones are so easy to turn something on that sucks data, and sometimes without his glasses on Dh can't tell what he's done. So with data blocked he can't accidentally turn something on!
