I need to move. Seriously. I've collected 8 stay cats just from feeding 1 (they tell their friends) and apparently I now have a skunk and whatever was just fighting with it. Every room in my house smells. I want to open all the windows, but.....well.......that would be worse.
My life is over at age 41. I operate a cathouse, which isn't as much fun as it sounds to men.

Put down the for sale sign, Ellie May. You get used to the scent, but it never gets pleasant. Never. Think of all the kitties you're rescuing from the varmits.

Heh, the skunk is unfortunate, but you save furry kitties so you are a hero in my book!
On a side note, a skunk sprayed right outside my house as well. Blech, blech, gag, retch!

Think coffee think coffee think coffee.
Really if you tell yourself it smells like coffee you can survive.

We had a skunk spray our house about 3 weeks ago. The smell has left but it took about 2 weeks. The first two days where the worst. Hope it gets better soon. When I was reading on how to get rid of them all the information said to not leave any cat/dog food out in the open to feed your pets. They come for the food just like the cats do.

Does it help to know this crazy cat lady adores you? Probably not.
That is all incidental to the skunk, who would have sprayed your house anyway probably, because skunks are assholes.
It will dissipate. I think. I'm fairly certain.

Yes, do what you can to minimize the odor, then you just have to wait it out. This happened to us several years ago just before our daughter graduated high school, and with several functions planned at our house I went a little nuts! Long story short it all worked out. Rotsa Ruck

Head to a local janitorial supply store they should have gallon size bottles of enzyme cleaner for skunk odor. (It works on cat spray too so that will probably be nice too)

odoban is your friend. had a couple skunks fight or breed or something under our house a few years ago because my dumb butt brother in law didnt close up the crawlspace opening from when he was doing something under there. anyway. it was bad, we smelled like skunk(the kids teachers were offering suggestions because, yes it was that noticeable), the food tasted like skunk, bad.
I sprayed odoban, I had bowls and such sitting around with coffee grounds, I had windows open because while it also stunk outside that allowed some fresh air in--but it was nearly winter so was cold . after the first couple days it got better daily.

As I hope never to have this experience- can someone tell me what skunk smells like? Where do you live that you never have smelled a skunk? In late winter around here, the air is often filled with skunk. Apparently when a female rejects a male during breeding season, she sprays him . The stench of rejection is strong! ! And then, if you are unlucky enough to hit a skunk with your car, your whole car reeks!!

I drove straight to the car wash and did the super scrub. It was much better. Only could smell a bit the next day and 2 days later it as gone.

The neighbors had one in their basement. They had to move out for a week. We put pans of tomatoes all around the house to get rid of the smell.

A distempered skunk wandered over to our front porch one day years ago. It walked like it was drunk, in broad daylight, and was spraying all over the place. DH put a trash can over it to contain it, and we were able to get a conservation officer out to shoot it and remove it an hour or two later.
We covered the steps with tomato juice and vinegar, but it took a few decent rains to get rid of the smell.
Hang in there?

Besides one very special sweet kitty; I really dislike cats. Well not all cats, but stray cats. They are equal to the vermin that sprayed your house. Putting food outside is probably not too smart when you don't want to attract more vermin.
