This is just a vent. I was driving two of my daughters home from school today. There is a weird three way intersection that we have to go through. Two of the streets have stop signs and the other does not, that street has the right-of-way even when they are turning left. I stopped at the stop sign, a bus was already at the other stop sign and it turned at the intersection. Just as it finished turning, three cars were coming down the other street with no sign, they have the right-of-way, they don't stop at all and either go straight or turn left. Two of them turned left. Since they turned left, I couldn't go. The van behind me was blowing his obnoxiously loud horn the entire time. He had out of state plates and I'm sure he didn't understand the intersection.
After I went through the stop sign, my single lane road opens up to two lanes and there is a stop light. He pulls up next to my car, yelling. He says to open the window. My 6 year-old is in the back and she starts to open the window. 13 year-old yells at the six-year old to stop and put the window up (which she did).
The jerk then makes a "gun" figure with his hand and finger and points it at me and pretends like he is shooting me! What a bastard!! Ugh, sometimes I just hate people!
I deeply regret not getting his plate and reporting him. He turned right towards the highway, and I turned left to go home. I keep telling myself that the police probably would not have been able to do anything as he most likely got on the highway,

One of my all time pet peeves is people not remembering their driver's ed rules as it pertains to stop signs-particularly four way stops. I swear, I see more people lose their ever-loving minds when they don't get to go when they think they should (usually before everyone else regardless of when they actually get there) or because they see a stop sign and think it should be yield for them.
I'm sorry your kids had to see the grouchy man. That stinks and probably was scary for them.

Try not to take his attitude personally. I guessing that with how you described his aggression and anger, that you're not the only person he's done that to.
Maybe one day he'll do that to a LEO in an unmarked vehicle, or a LEO in a personal vehicle that would not be recognizable to angry man. THen perhaps angry man will get the karma coming to him.

That is absolutely frightening. Road rage terrifies me.
A few weeks ago I was behind a guy driving erratically who had just done a U-turn at a light. He flipped me off bc I had already turned right on red and when he u-turned a car or two later I was apparently in his way. Anyway, No one was in front of him for a quarter mile or so, but then a woman turned into the left lane from the median. This guy was probably 100 yards behind her when she got into her lane...and he was in the CENTER LANE. Anyway, we're all approaching another light and erratic guy decides he wants into the left lane to get around cars that were slowing to stop at the light in front of us. Because the left lane was now occupied by a car that never fully sped up because they had just turned into the lane 100ft back, he gets pissed, slows next to her (his window is already down), screams something at the lady and then THROWS FAST FOOD GARBAGE AT HER WINDOW. I heard it hit; it definitely made contact. When I drove by I could see it was a McDonald's big mac container and bag. I was completely dumbfounded that someone would throw something at someone's car...and all because someone doesn't have ESP and know that the car 100 yards away will eventually want the spot your car currently occupies.

Holy cow! Sounds like anger issues for sure! You did the right thing, you can not engage at all. Hopefully the driver will be embarrassed for their behavior later on... come on... a mom driving her kids home from school? You have to be all kinds of screwed up to be that aggressive.

Although if I saw the video correctly, the first driver was in the passing lane the whole time? Yeah...however, she is going above the speed limit and she is actually passing traffic (one flatbed truck that I saw). The truck behind her was being an ubber-douchebag. I don't think it would have mattered if she were going faster - jerk behind her would still be raging.

That is scary.
We have a similar intersection coming out of the HS. There are stop signs for the traffic exiting the school and exiting a subdivision on right, but the oncoming traffic does not stop. Most of it is turning right into the school, but some is turning left into the subdivision. At the beginning of the school year there is a least one accident and several near misses as drivers do not read the sign saying "oncoming traffic does not stop".

I have been going through that intersection on an almost daily basis for 25 years and I have driven through more glass chips and scattered left over car parts from accidents than I care remember. Over the years I have also witnessed a couple of near misses. I wish the city would put a lighted, flashing, neon sign there about the oncoming traffic. The sad thing is that some people still wouldn't read it! I decided that I need to talk to my 6 year-old about not always doing what people (especially strangers) tell her to do. The guy yelled to roll down the window and she did until my 13 year-old yelled at her not to and she she put it back up. She is so sweet and compliant and will do whatever you tell her to do which is good but I need to teach her that in certain cases it might not be a good idea to do what someone else wants. I hope that makes sense. I'll have to word it so she understands.

Yes, to me it looks like she's using her cell phone while driving at high speed. So not only does she deliberately mess with the driver behind her, she becomes just as dangerous behind the wheel, if not more. All she had to do was move to the correct lane, she taunts him instead. To to me she's just as big of a moron, with a good dose of her own karma coming her way.

this is why I conceal carry. But at what point in that situation would you pull your gun? What if he had one too? Surely the best thing to do is get away from the situation ASAP. OP, that sounds terrifying. I'm glad you and your kids are ok. I do feel sorry for your 6 year old, I would have probably been the same as her when I was a kid.

Major misconception, even by LEO. for some reason some people believe that the government created a lane just for people to break the law, aka speed. I'm not going to be inconvenienced and stuck behind people that want to go UNDER the speed limit just because someone else wants to go faster than me. I'll do my passing and then move over. Not sooner just so you can fly down the road and endanger everyone. Someone up on my ass going 20 miles over isn't in the "right" just because I'm only going 3 miles over to pass. Back off asshole, wait for me to pass this caravan and I'll move over on my own.

There is a road sign coming into Washington from Oregon that states it's the law and gives the number of the law. I want to take a picture of the sign but I'm always driving by myself so I can't It's not a lane created just for speeding, it's a lane for passing and traffic flow. Common sense and thinking of more than just yourself would dictact that you (general you, not you specifically) don't stay in the lane longer than necessary or because you will be passing that car way up there. We just had this conversation at work on Wednesday. Some women tend to want to control what the other drivers do, which makes them just as dangerous as the speeders.

Pollyanna here: Am I the only one who was a little discomforted by the laughing at the wreck at the end of the video?
Okay, I am not above a smirk when I see an asshat driver sitting at the same light as me when they sped past me, or seeing them pulled over on the side of the road with police standing at their door-but the laughing at the wreck seems a bit like they are testing their own karmic future.

You pass the people that go under the speed limit and then move back into the right lane. No one said you had to stay behind slow traffic. The driver in the video only passed one vehicle, she had plenty of time to change back to the proper lane. It is never up to arrogant shit heads to try and control traffic, you don't know what their reason is for speeding. It might be a medical emergency, and a host of other reasons someone has for speeding. The guy in the video was being a jerk, but two wrongs don't make a right. Someone just speeding is being safer on the road than the idiot who was also speeding busy videotaping while driving.

Only one? Sorry he frightened you and your children. People can be set off so easily these days. You did the right thing by keeping your windows closed. Next time something like that happens have one of your children take a pic of him and his plates if possible and turn him into the authorities. A talk with the local LEOs might be just what he needs to tone things down. It worked for my DS when he flipped off a LEO in a plain car. He was pulled over. I'm not sure if he was ticketed but he has since stopped doing that sort of thing.
