What do bare/unfoiled Minc products look like? Can you use them without a Minc machine/laminator and foil, or does whatever the foil stick to look weird?

I'm pretty sure they're just black toner like from a laser printer or photocopier. The foils bond to the toner with heat and pressure. At least that's how it worked with the Letraset one I had a long time ago. You could use anything printed with toner and apply the foil to it.

The products vary. Some are just white paper/cardstock/chipboard with black toner designs applied which will adhere to the foil. For example, it might be a white tag with a black sentiment so you can choose the color of foil you want to use. Some of the 12x12 and 6x6 papers are white with some colored designs, along with the black toner applied to other designs so you end up with both a colored matte and foiled paper. It's pretty clever.
The outer packaging does provide a pretty good idea of what the pieces look like.
ETA: I didn't answer the second question. Printed toner has a chalky appearance and feel to it so I don't think you would want to use it alone. It might smear, too. If there's a particular item you're interested in, let me know and I'll take a look at it for you. I have the majority of the collection. Some of the products have more toner on them than others.

It didn't look weird to me (I was looking at the die cuts and small paper pack)... It looked like flat black - not dusty or chalky, but no shine to it...
The black and white designs looked to me like you could use them without anyone noticing that they were 'unfinished'... In the paper pack, some of the papers were a pale colour (pink and mint), and to me they looked unfinished just because it's such a dark black... Almost like either the colours were washed out, or the black was too heavy...

ashley, I opened up that ephemera and the only pieces that might not work for you are the three pieces of black on black - the trick or treat piece and a couple of other sentiments. The rest is really cute. I don't know if you've seen this or not but I thought I'd post a link to it here. It's really amazing the ways people have discovered to make the Minc more versatile. foiling a stamped imageI also read about using embossing ink or an embossing pen to add foil the other day but I can't put my finger on it right now. I'll post a link if I find it.
