On Thursday, he asked the head of GM if she could be a good mother and be the CEO of GM? What do you think of this?
Not quite sure how to post links yet, but it is an easy story to find online.

She should have turned around and asked him if he could be a good father and a news anchor. Duh Matt. That kind of thinking is archaic.

I read that. Why does no one ask any male GMs if they can be good fathers and CEOs? Oh wait... it's because we're still ridiculous in this country when it comes to gender.

Sock said what I was thinking. If he wanted to talk about work-life balance, there are things he could've asked that weren't so asinine. But in the end it's stupid because nobody asks males these questions.

I lost respect for him a very long time ago. This. I have the Today show on most mornings for about 20 minutes and then I always wonder why. He's kinda douchey.

I also feel that question was inappropriate.
He also asked if the GM board might have selected her because she was a woman in light of the litigation, inferring that the public or government would go easier on the company if the face of the CEO was a woman.
I don't know the answer to that either but after graduating from college 35+ years ago subsequent to a strong woman's right movement in the '70's I don't think we've made much headway. The NY Times editor (can't recall her name right now) another case in point.

It was an asshole question.
She handled it gracefully.

I just saw this on the news a few minutes ago. Both the woman anchor and myself were appalled that he went there. Apparently he justified it by saying that they had previously discussed work-life balance; however, as the anchor pointed out, no one who hadn't seen the previous discussion would know this. He's gotten more and more arrogant as time goes on.
(And with this post, I've posted more on this board than I did on 2Peas in the last 6 months.)

I think it's a stupid question. But to play devil's advocate here. What if the reason we don't ask male CEOs that question is because we've had years and years and years of male CEOs and already kind of know the answer to that question. But Female CEOs of major corporations is a fairly newer thing and we aren't sure if the dynamic is the same or not?
I don't know. I think it's an irrelevant question. What makes a person a good or bad parent is their commitment to their children. Not their commitment to their job. And also, why does the general public care or need to know how good a parent is? How does her being able to make it to PTC or not have anything to do with her running a company?

The NY Times editor (can't recall her name right now) another case in point. I think she was hired due to the litigation to give a softer side, more sympathetic to the families whose loved ones were killed in accidents and to the jury. It sounds terrible to say that, but if all the litigation was not going on, I doubt she would have been hired.

Matt Lauer is an ass. I'd wonder why he has an audience, but given the state of TV today, it would be a dumb question.
