I have a canon revel XSi that is past its prime. The kit lens is broken so I can only use the zoom lens. My pics are all blurry these days. I'm trying to decide if I should get another SLR or something that is a little more compact but still has features such as zoom, video, manual adjustments, etc.
Has anyone gone from an SLR to a smaller camera? Do you like it or wish you had an SLR? What camera do you have?

Our last camera was an Olympus mirrorless camera - it's small enough to fit in my purse but has interchangeable lenses for picture variety / quality.
We still have our DSLR. Dont know if I'd go without my canon - but I prefer the Olympus for travel.

Do you always shoot manual? Or at least semi-manual?
If you like to manipulate the settings, you probably won't be happy with a point & shoot.
If you like to grab and go - there are some super nice P&S cameras that actually take as good or better pictures than a SLR and can have a huge zoom on them.

I have a Nikon 5300 dslr and a Sony A6000 mirror less with interchangeable lenses. I love them both but find myself using the Sony more. It's smaller, lighter and takes great photos.

You can get lenses repaired by Canon and I've always heard good things about it, though I haven't done so myself. Generally the camera body has nothing to do with blurry photos. Its the shutter speed, so it could be the capability, but generally has to do with the lens and size of aperture. Maybe try renting a faster lens and see if that solves the issue?
I have a Canon 60d. I tried renting a mirrorless Fuji camera which still has manual controls. I had a little trouble adjusting to the differences and much prefer my DSLR. But I think that if I took time to learn and get used to a new p&s, I could like it. But it just doesn't give you as much control. For snapshots I just rely on my IPhone.
You have to really looks at the differences in camera bodies to see if buying something new would be worth it, or if you may be better with a new lens. If I were to buy a new camera body it would be to upgrade to a full frame. It all depends on what your photographing too, what needs you have for it. And if you are shooting manual.
What are you photographing? Kids? Sports? Whats is the f stop of the zoom lens?

I don't' know what your budget is, but I bought a fujifilm x100s to take on vacation. You can get a lens adapter for it, but I didn't because it seemed pricy. It's small and comes with a wide lens. You can manipulate your settings if you like or go full auto. It also does video. Plus, people love it, it looks like an old film camera a bit.

I have a Canon 50D and a Canon G16. I love both but take the G16 with me the most because it can fit in my purse. This thing is AMAZING! It's my 2nd G series, and I have always been very pleased with them.

I have a Nikon DSLR that I love to shoot manually with, however it's just not feasible to bring it with me all the time. I've been investigating mirrorless cameras for the size and features, and even though I'm a Nikon girl, I broke down and bought the Sony A600 recently. I bought the body only and got the 35mm 1.8 lens for portraits and then a larger zoom (non-kit) lens for catching DD9 at Circus Arts classes. I am so pleased with the results so far, the 35mm takes beautiful photos in manual (and in auto!).
I will keep my Nikon DSLR but the smaller mirrorless is so handy to have around!

My husband's the primary picture taker in our family. He just purchased a mirrorless Sony. He loves it. He was finding that 90% of the pictures were being taken with his iPhone because he didn't want to drag the DSLR around.

My husband has this camera and loves it. We used it in Itay and the pictures are fantastic! linkI just got a new camera to replace my Canon 10D. I got the Canon SL1. It is so light and uses my Canon lenses. I love it! It is so light which is a huge plus for me. It also does video and you can shoot from the back screen or use the viewfinder. link

I just got a SONY mirrorless because I was sick of carrying around the Canon DSLR and my little point and shoot finally died. I am so happy with it!

I have a Canon G15 and an Olympus OM-D.
The Olympus is a fabulous 3/4 camera that takes pictures comparable to my old Canon 5d. It has a full range of settings and you can get all kinds of lenses to meet almost any need.
The gG15 is the predecessor to the G16. Both fabulous cameras. I shoot manual 90% of the time and this little camera is great for that. It's also easy enough for my kids to use. Not sure of the G16 but the G 15 has auto sync flash which makes fill flash so easy.
Love both of these

I typically take photos of the kids. I have been finding that I don't want to take the SLR with me so usually just end up using my phone. I used to experiment more with the settings but now just use auto most of the time due to the kids barely sitting still long enough to take a photo. I definitely don't have a lot of time to change lenses.

voltagain thanks for the recommendation of the G16. Sounds like others here love it as well. The Canon Powershot SX530 is on QVC today and it looks nice also. I am trying to figure out which would be best. From what I can tell, the SX530 has a higher zoom, but the G16 has better aperture range. What do you think the pros and cons of each would be? Would you still recommend the G16?

If I didn't do bird photography, I would definitely go with only a mirrorless camera and my iPhone. I think most people are better served by a good mirrorless with interchangeable lenses now than by DSLRs.

Would you still recommend the G16? I think which one will be best is totally dependent on what you are most likely to shoot. If most of what you want to shoot is indoors/around the house (or similar environment) Go with with best aperture options. If you plan to do more outdoor day time long range shooting, like birds or soccer, go with the best zoom option. Since most people are wanting more indoor shots (like kid sports in the gym) I'd go with the G16. The zoom is "good enough" for a gym shot while keeping the big aperture you need for gym lights.

I have both a DSLR (Canon 5D) and a small point and shoot (Canon Powershot G15). The Powershot G15 is a great camera, but I would never rely on it soley for my pictures (that's probably more about me being anal). What I love about it is that it fits in my purse and I take it to social events or outings where I don't care as much about picture quality. It's very convenient! You can also get an attachment for a polarizer, which is handy. There are a lot of fantastic mirrorless/bridge/point and shoot cameras out there. IF you find you often have a camera because you don't feel like taking your DSLR, then you should definitely get a smaller camera. The best camera is the one you have with you.

I typically take photos outside. My kids are in football and baseball but also band, choir and one will be starting basketball. We like to go on hikes and take pics of the kids in summer and fall. I wish the G16 had a higher zoom, or the SX 530 had better aperture. . I want both.

I'll second the Sony A6000. Great camera, light weight, fits in my purse and the 16-50mm kit lens is pretty good.

I switched to a mirrorless camera this summer. I bought the Sony a6000 and I'm so happy with the image quality and camera features. It's about half the size of my Canon t2i.

The Sony a6000 sounds like an awesome camera but the cost would be significantly higher than the others in order to get a zoom lens as well as the kit lens. I kind of like the idea of not having to change lenses as well.

I have an Olympus mirrorless OM-D and 40mm. It is slick and takes nice portraits. My lens is weak on the wide side, but I'm not sure if I care to invest in tons of lenses. That would defeat the pack and play benefits over my big SLR.

Hey guys...thanks for recommending the Sony e6000. I loved my Canon Rebel but its just too heavy. So my husband just ordered the Sony for me. I have an upcoming trip to Mexico City and surrounding area for school and can't wait to use it!

I've decided to sell my Canon t3i when I upgrade to the iPhone 6s+ (which I will probably do in the next month or so). I just don't use the big camera enough to make it worth it, and don't think I would even pull out a smaller one. But my phone? Always with me. And with the increase in quality, I've decided good enough is enough.
