When do you tip the valet? Do you tip when they take your vehicle or when they return it (or both/neither).

Both-the aren't always the same person.
But, I grew up in a family that loves to tip. My mom sees it at almost a tithe to the world.

Pick up, but I see what you mean, the drop off person is working, too.

I tip when I pick up my car. I usually tip $2-3. If they keep my close, they get extra.

At pick up. I usually do $3 but when I was in SF last weekend I saw a guy tip $10....I felt cheap.

We used to just tip at pack up ... Then I realized it was usually different people at drop-off and pick-up so now we tip at both.
No reason the guy that works the arrival time at the hotel when everyone is dropping off should get less tips than the pick up guy that works in the morning ...
good service is good service. That's what you're tipping for. If the arrival guy is nice, tip him. :-)

We tried going to a restaurant last weekend but you could only valet park there. Well I happen to drive a hoop de that the windows don't go down and you cant lock so we went somewhere else...lol. I always assumed you tipped at pick up.

Having worked with 100's of hotels and restaurants... the tips are pooled and they are usually pooled over a pay period. So it doesn't matter if you work on a busy or slow shift!

I have always tipped at pickup, but maybe I should start tipping at both pickup and drop off.
