I know it's been discussed before, but I can not for the life of me find the thread.
I'm about ready to print about 70 layouts and it's been a while. I'm not sure if I should get a specialty finish, glossy or matte. I tend to like my photos glossy, but I think a whole page might look better in a matte. But a specialty finish might be even better.
What's your preference?

I don't do too much digital, but I have actually gotten all three finishes at one time or another. I usually base my choice on the layout or project. Since I do a lot of what I call series or project scrapping I would keep the look consistent through the entire project so whatever I choose at the beginning I continue with. For more elegant/serious or import layouts in my general scrapbooking albums I have used the specialty finish, for more fun and vibrant spreads I go for glossy. For more scenic or landscape photo spreads (which I do a lot of) I tend to go with the mat.
It's all individual, but if you are unsure, I would take one layout, have it done in each finish, and review it before you place your full order, then you can truly judge for yourself which is more pleasing to you.
Happy Scrapping!

I do everything in matte finish. When you slip them into page protectors, the actual print finish is barely perceptible. Depending on where you get them printed, glossy vs matte may have a crisper appearance (edges, vibrancy), and as previously mentioned, the page protectors give the matte a nice glossy look in the end anyways. I'd do a few test prints like maribeth suggested before placing a large order.

I love Sam's Club for my printing. It's not glossy or matte. It's like somewhere in between. That's awesome that you have that many layouts done. Have you thought about having them printed into a Shutterfly (or similar) book?

I print everything with a matte finish. Photos, layouts, everything.

Have you thought about having them printed into a Shutterfly (or similar) book? We just got a new Sam's Club about 5 minutes from my house. They closed the old one. The service tech at the old one said they were getting all new machines that printed differently. I can't remember what he was saying because I had no point of reference. I thought is was laser and not ink. I wonder if all Sam's are going to this. I need to get some pictures printed so I can see if there is a difference.

I don't know, but whatever it is…I like it. HA HA.

I print all my layouts in matte. I find better depth perception for shadowed elements in matte than I do in glossy - but maybe I need my eyes checked!

I actually add them into my normal scrapbook albums with my paper layouts. I keep chronological and scrapbook whenever. I do this too - whatever size, format (e.g. PL, digi, paper) they happen to be, they all go in chronological order.

I always do matte. I don't like the glare/shine of glossy.
