I've been a SAHM/WAHM for the past 4 years, prior to that I worked in an office where jeans were acceptable. Anyhow, I got a job assisting in a preschool class on Fridays. Additionally they asked me if I'd like to be a para-professional sub, so I'll be doing that too on occasion. Both jobs are at the elementary school. It was the strangest way I've ever gotten a job before. The preschool class is the same class my ds was in last year and I'd told the teacher if they needed someone for the Friday position to let me know. Once the job was posted I sent in my resume to the principal. Yesterday when I was picking up ds I asked the principal if she'd gotten my email. She basically said "yes, I need you I'll get you the new hire pack on Monday". After I left her office the secretary must have mentioned they needed a para-pro sub so she stepped out into the hall and called me back in to ask if I wanted to do that too, I said sure, so I got that job as well, lol. Gotta love small towns where everyone knows everyone. I have no idea what I've gotten myself into Anyhow, my point is, what do I wear?

What did the teachers wear when your child was in the class last year? I'd use that as a guideline.

I believe pants, lol. But beyond that I don't remember I do remember thinking that the room was always really warm, but they added a 2nd class and I don't know which room I'll be in or if the temperature varies.

If it's a preschool class you'll be bending over a lot to reach them, tie shoe laces, etc. Highish necklines will prevent cleavage showing ( not that preschoolers even care- but still!) You may be sitting or teaching on the floor or tiny chairs, so make sure your pants are comfortable and have a bit of stretch in them. Also, you might want to think about clothes with pockets for Kleenex, hand sanitizer cell phone, etc. My preschool teacher friend sometimes wears an apron with huge pockets at the front while she's in the classroom.

Our preschool teachers are usually wearing comfortable clothes that allow them to move around.

duluth trading company makes shirts that are two inches longer...to cover the backside while bending over. nice hendleys ....that would be appropriate for preschool. with jeans or other pants.

Our preschool teachers are usually wearing comfortable clothes that allow them to move around. Yup, that. Cover what might pop out in the front or the back when you bend over or sit on the floor, with clothes that you won't feel fussy about getting dirty. That's the entirety of our school dress code! We run the whole spectrum from yoga pants and tennis shoes to fashion-blog-worthy attire but let's just say we trend to the casual end. Paint, snot, playground dirt, and bodily fluids are hazards of the job so don't wear your $400 Nordstrom silk blouse because I promise that's the day someone's gonna puke on you. Wear shoes that support your feet, though. Trust me on that. Check your employee handbook or ask your director if you have questions about it - that's not a dumb question But I think you can assume that if you look tidy and are wearing clothes, you will be fine.

The preschool I worked at (in Japan) all the teachers wore track pants of the same brand and style just in different colours. Now they were bright pink, green, blue, orange, etc so they were "happy" colours, but it meant they can bend and pick things up off the floor easily.

Fridays were my favorite days at school. They were jean days. I would show up next Friday in a nice but comfortable outfit with comfortable shoes. You will be walking and on your knees and possibly have kids in your lap. It is pretty physical.

Don't rush out and buy anything too nice. Call the preschool teacher or ask her at pick up.
I typically wore pants and a decent (non tshirt) shirt.
I got glitter, glue, snot, market and all kinds of other stuff on me when I taught in a preschool

It's going to vary greatly by school. At my school, pre-K teachers and aides follow the same dress code as teachers. Our dress code doesn't allow jeans or track pants. They mostly wear khakis or long skirts every day.

I don't know about you, but I dislike going to the mall shopping. One of my friends told me about Stitch Fix which is an online shopping service that will send you 5 pieces of clothing every month or two months or however you set it up. It's like getting a Christmas surprise by mail. A lot of my teacher friends use it. This is my referral link if you would like to check it out. www.stitch fix.com/referral/5774581

I'm also working as a school teacher - this profession requires a strict dress code. You have to be the example for your pupils, otherwise they will also wear jeans and T-shirts. I buy my clothes at online shops - it is comfortable and saves my time. One of such variants is gotapparel.com - they have good selection of goods and often make sales.

for sure check with your administration, i've been at schools where aides were ok with jeans all the time and some where only fridays were jeans.

I teach preschool everyday, LOVE IT!! I am allowed to wear jeans, YEAH, but they have to be nice, dressier jeans.
For sure check with the dress code of the school. Like others have said, go for comfort! You will be up and down a lot, you will bend over a lot, you will be touched a lot. Be sure your clothes cover everything that should be covered without having to adjust constantly. Be sure they are easy to wash, no dry clean only for me. I am in a new room this year and the temp has been all over the place. I usually have a nuetral sweater I can throw on if I am cold. We tell the kids to layer so I do also.
I am actually looking to get some dressier pants, but not dress pants. I am tired of always wearing jeans and want to change it up once in a while.
CONGRATS on your new job and have fun!!!

Years ago I worked as a para pro and we were allowed to wear jeans and sneakers.
We were forever moving, on the floor, etc...
And lets face it, the pay did not warrant a brand new lovely wardrobe.
