In addition to what's already been mentioned, it seemed to me that a lot of their attention and finances must have been focused on Walter Jr's disability--perhaps getting him therapy etc.

We just watched season 1 and half of season 2 yesterday. I am not sure if I am into this show or not. I am having a hard time with a few of the characters. I think I will continue watching it to see if I will get into it more.
I think that the decor of their house is retro 90's. I think she did the babies room to go with the rest of the house. The car Walt drives is a newer car. maybe she likes her older jeep.
My husband really likes the show.... He is the one who wanted to watch it.

I'm about 4 episodes into season 2. I'll have to start paying more attention to the color choices. This like that typically just go over my head

There is so much nuance to the writing. There is a scene where Walter sees his neighbor Carol and she is carrying groceries and the bag breaks and oranges come tumbling out.
I watched the series in real time and then after the final episode, watched it all again except the last season because I was too fragile and just couldn't be walked out to the ledge again!
For me this was the best written and acted series of all time.
I have to admit that I loved to hate Walter White but I did at times feel sorry for him. Maybe because I was also a fan of Cranston's chararacter in Malcom in the Middle, Hal.
The last episode and in particular the last scene was just perfect - Vince Gilligan nailed it!
I am looking forward to Better Call Saul and hope that we see some cameo appearances from the cast of Breaking Bad.

No spoilers, please I know I am super late to this party, but I just started watching the first season of Breaking Bad. Question: when is the action in the first season supposed to take place? The houses (especially Walt's house) look early 1990s to me as does a lot of the wardrobe and most of the cars, but then in one episode a man is talking on Bluetooth. I'm confused! Is the outdatedness supposed to reflect the fact that they're poor? Or maybe not very classy? In the episode where Skyler is painting the nursery it screams early 90s and she's just then doing that room. So it's not just that they can't afford to update it, she's still choosing that style. The disconnect is bothering me so much that I'm having a hard time caring about the rest of the story. This stuck out to me a lot, too. It was so distracting at first. Once you just realize it's the character's taste, the show gets good. Plus, Skylar and Walt seem to evolve slightly as money comes in. I know people today in 2014 who just live in past decades. Go to any home store and you'll find stuff that screams 90s.

Her oldest would have been born in the early 90's. That's where I associate all the baby stuff from. She held on to it. I noticed the purple right away, then it was funny to see where it would pop up. Her dh was such a MANS MAN that it was funny to see the whole house in purple. I noticed the purple immediately, as well, and thought it was humorous because of Hank as well.

Reading this SO makes me want to rewatch the entire series. My husband was late to the party and has watched all but the last "half season". I keep telling him the statute of limitations has expired for spoilers, and too bad for him if one of us slips and he finds out the ending of the series!

We finished the series while we were on vacation and it was SO good. Anyone who isn't sure, stick with it. It's worth it.

The way Skyler always had her hand on her pregnant belly drove me bananas. Once I noticed it, I couldn't STOP noticing it.
It is my one of my very favorite shows. The writing and acting was amazing.

The whole series was just so masterfully written. It's like every single moment was written from beginning to end in a single sitting because it flowed so smoothly. There were scenes where I would wonder "what is that about" only for it to be tied in a couple of seasons later. Everything was just entwined.

Another thing I noticed was that Junior (Flynn... LOL), his main part on the show was eating breakfast.
