When you make cupcakes and you have foil cupcake liners...
Do you put both the inner paper and the foil liner in the cupcake pan
Or
Do you just use the foil and discard the paper that is in between each foil liner?
Why?
Thanks in advance for settling the debate in my household.

If I have a cupcake pan, I discard the foil. I think the foil is to use for baking if you don't have a cupcake pan.

I thought the foil was for the look of the finished cupcake. If I want to use foil ones I use the paper and foil combo. I have never thought to just use the foil. I thought the cake would stick to the foil without the paper.

I always use both layers for the same reasons NicL said. I know not all baking does well with foil.

I rarely use foil ones but when I do I use both layers. The foil is to make them nicer looking the paper sticks to the cake less.

I just use the foil, the paper is just there to maker it easier to separate them.

I just always threw them in the tins as they were in the stack. So in one tin I'd use paper and the next I'd use foil, etc. never occurred to me to toss one or the other. ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just the foil liner. I thought the papers were just do you could get the foil liners apart.
ETA. The cupcakes don't stick to the foil, nor does anything else I've made in the foil liners.

I use foil liners all the time and believe the paper is there to make the foil ones easier to separate. Love that I can use a cookie sheet or half sheet pan instead of a muffin pan. And nothing ever sticks like it does with paper ones. And they look nicer, in my opinion.

We make muffins that stick to the paper and crumble (only thing we've ever made that do that.) So I use the foil for them and they come out much nicer! I've noticed the last set I bought have a paper liner stuck that seems to be part of them...that also works great. But put them in just paper and it's a nightmare. Now I want muffins...ugh!

I've used those for years and always thought the paper liners helped you separate the foil. I use foil ones for those individual cheesecakes with the vanilla wafer cookie crust. The paper liners are just bonus for me.

I guess I am the cheep one and I separate them first and then use both the foil and the paper but not on the same cupcake(does that make sense). I have never had the foil stick to the cake.

When I use foil liners for a customer order, the ones I get don't have paper between them. I use just the foil liner.

Weird! Someone had brought in cupcakes to work yesterday, and they had used both the foil and the paper. OP, do you work at the same place I do? LOL!

Great question as I was wondering why there was the two liners. I use them both like NicL.

I also use the foil part and toss the paper as I figured it was just to separate them. I've never had muffins or cupcakes stick to the foil.
The problem I have with using the paper part (that comes with the foil) is it's so thin. I don't think the finished result is pretty. And with some muffins can even have a greasy look to it. The heavier decorative paper liners that come by themselves are different.

I just use the foil, the paper is just there to maker it easier to separate them. This is what I thought. I just recently bought some all paper ones so it wasn't an issue to figure out.

I make them in the foil and then put them in a paper liner. Aren't the papers different colors of pastel? like pink, yellow, light blue? Why would they be intended to be thrown away if they were decorative?

I just did a google image search for home made cupcakes and in almost every single picture they were just in the paper liners. 2 pictures were in foil, a few were in fancy paper liners (just had little flowers of polka-dots on them) but the majority was the paper liners.

I just use the foil, the paper is just there to maker it easier to separate them. This is what I do, too. I have the Reynolds brand, and the package says to discard the paper separators, and to place the foil liner on a cookie sheet.

I just use the foil liners in the pan, unless I run out. Then I might have to use a paper one in a pinch.

I have never used the foil ones before. I usually buy the paper ones and spray them lightly with cooking spray. They don't stick bad at all that way.
