Where are people getting all these foil liners? I have never bought or used foil ones? I just buy paper one and use those. One layer. And I've never even seen or eaten a cupcake or muffin with a foil liner. And believe me, I have eaten my share and then some.

I hate making cupcakes with a passion, so I very rarely do it. Yet I am fascinated by this discussion for some odd reason. All I know about liners is that if you use a paper decorative liner, you lose the look of the design when the cupcake bakes. But if you then try to just put a 2nd fresh paper liner around the cupcake, they always seem to big and messy looking. One more reason I don't want to make them.

I have never used foil ones. They are usually way pricier and I am cheap. ☺️

I just always threw them in the tins as they were in the stack. So in one tin I'd use paper and the next I'd use foil, etc. never occurred to me to toss one or the other. ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Me too. I just thought, "Hey, a variety of liners!"

You buy these super cute liners just to find out when they are baked you barely notice and/or the design is changed (color different after baking/or shade of the cupcake - especially chocolate). What a scam!

This is what I do, too. I have the Reynolds brand, and the package says to discard the paper separators, and to place the foil liner on a cookie sheet.I never thought to look at the instructions, yet i was always unsure. For years, I did the thing where I used both liners until someone told me that I only need to use one. Her reason was that you never buy cupcakes with two liners. Then I started using foil by itself. Because yes, those white ones are very thin and tend to look burned.

I just use the foil, the paper is just there to maker it easier to separate them. This. LOL! I thought the paper was just throw away, so I always use foil and never have a problem. ETA: When I have used other kind (non foil) my cake has stuck to the cup. So, I am a foil snob.

The foil liners can be placed on a cookie sheet when you don't have cupcake pans.

I bake cupcakes all. the time. and I have no clue what you people are talking about. LOL! Foil with paper? Huh? Is this a particular brand?
I've bought paper. And I've bought stay bright color cups. But I have no clue about this foil/paper situation. What brand? Where did you buy them?

There are pastel paper liners between the foil liners, presumably to separate them. These can be placed freestanding on a cookie sheet and retain their shape, if you don't have cupcake pans.

I just looked at my Reynold's brand too and it says to discard the paper liners. I had always done it that way. Interesting to see how people interpret things differently.

The Reynolds brand I have now has about 5 paper and then a foil one and says nothing about discarding any. Surely they are not meant to throw 5 away. I'm sure there are many variations in different brands. I never use 2. I make more muffins than cupcakes and they are small batches, so I use paper sometimes and foil the other. I don't need them to be decorative. Never could figure out why they are packaged this way.

Those are overbaked!
I started using parchment tulip papers - I won't use anything else now! Love them. I have to order online though.

I am cheap and don't buy the foil ones. I only buy the paper ones. But I would separate and use both one at a time.

I've bought the foil ones once. I saved the paper part for my next baking adventure.

That's the whole point of the foil ones. The design doesn't change while baking when the oils of the cupcake soak into the paper ones. I'm another that discards the paper in between the foil. There are many different decorative foil ones now. My grocery stores has them, but I'm pretty sure I've seen them at both Michael's and Hobby Lobby.

You're supposed to use the paper liner, the instructions even say so.
My favourite foil liners are the ones that have the paper and foil embedded together, so they are one piece, not two separate.

I can add this to my list of things I learned from the Peas. I was totally clueless about the foil liners and because they cost more, completely ignored them. And to be honest, unless I make cupcakes or muffins for someone other than myself, will continue to do so. I'm cheap like that.

I always just used the foil then I saw several people use both. That made me wonder if I was doing something wrong so I consulted the foil wrapper box. As Debbie said it clearly states to discard the paper separators. Lisa D.

I don't ever buy foil ones.
Just the paper ones.
They're usually cuter.

I use the foil for baking and save the pastel colored liners for crafts.

I appreciate the thoughts. My sister is a professional baker. She discards the inner papers and bakes in the foil ones.
I, as an amateur baker, put both layers in the pan. I don't like the feel of foil near my teeth so I use the paper as an inner liner and foil as decorative but no direct contact with the food.
I prefer paper liners.
We both always bake cupcakes in a cupcake pan.

From Reynolds:
Reynolds Foil Baking Cups are packed with paper separators to prevent the foil cups from fusing together during manufacturing. These paper separators should be removed before filling the foil baking cups with batter.
Reynolds Foil Baking Cups are strong enough to be placed directly on a cookie sheet without the need for a muffin pan. We recommend placing the foil cups on a cookie sheet and filling each cup 2/3 full. To make this as easy as possible, pour cake batter from a measuring cup with a spout or drop batter from a 1/4 cup measure or ice cream scoop.

When I use foil liners for a customer order, the ones I get don't have paper between them. I use just the foil liner. Same here, the ones I use don't have foil in the middle so I use just foil.

The ones I wondered about were the paper decorated ones like on etsy. Im guessing you put the foil in them. . and the paper is decorative purposes?
