With all the crap going on I'm going to make it a point for the rest of September to post a couple of things that happened that made me happy. I will start with yesterday (each day, I put that date in the title)....join me...it doesn't have to be major.
Seeing a text from my girlfriend that she has fished separation of assets from her scum ex-husband...she got way more than she thought.
Seeing my husband and 16old DD giggling about some stupid you tube video.
Enjoying dinner with my family.
Watching my daughter skip out of scare squad. It's a program with our local library where the teens make props for the free haunted house for the haunted library....it's free for all. Last year there was over 4000 kids that came through.
So what made you smile yesterday?

Getting an all clear on my mammogram. Last time I was called back for a second look and I was worrying that would happen again. Thank you. Lord!

Seeing a new daffodil pop up each day in the garden. Almost the same but different part of the world - I have just bought a load of new daffodil bulbs to plant now so that I can enjoy seeing them pop up next Spring!

I'm enjoying cool mornings and mild, sunny days with just a touch of fall in the air.
Being thankful that @leowife began this thread!

We happened by a new Vietnamese restaurant in the area.
I had no idea it was here, and it was delicious.

That the meds we got for our dog on Sat seemed to have worked and he has relief from his itchy dry skin.
That despite the dire weather forecast this week I have managed to take my dog on our usual long walks without getting wet.

My PA was safely delivered of her 3rd son, a late surprise baby, yesterday morning. She sent us all a picture and is raring to come back to work . Before the good news thread derails with shock, let it be said she is only due back in January 2016 but ages ago when she booked her leave we negotiated a win-win situation: she is going to work the last week in Nov / 1st two weeks in Dec (just when everyone else is getting into holiday mode) as that is when a major client update is due and I can't do it without her.

Our Portuguese Water Dog Chelsea (named for the soccer team, not Clinton!) turned one yesterday. This breed is so naughty! She snagged a piece of pizza off the counter and then when things got really quiet (after I cleaned up and put away the rest of the pizza), I found her in my daughter's "off-limits" bed! She was so freaking proud of herself when I found her! LOL Let me see if I can share the picture I took... sorry the pic is so big, I don't know how to resize! sigh...

We have a legislated right to 4 months maternity leave but not all of it is paid. Govt. Insurance pays a percentage for mothers whose employers don't have more generous schemes. I was over-protecting myself in my post as I had two separate conversations yesterday in which I was criticized on this issue- one friend thought I was being too "soft" and the other one thought I was running a sweatshop . The sweatshop friend then switched to having a go at my PA for wanting to return to work (context: she earns more than her husband even when he is working and I am not getting involved in their private stuff). Sorry to have caused confusion and thanks for asking.

Ah. Ok. 4- 6 weeks is typical in the US but not law. It is usually employer specific. Some give maternity. Some don't. Some pay. Some not. Some people can have job protection under a Family Medical Leave Act. Gosh, typing that out makes us sound awful.

I had a craptastic day at work yesterday involving computer hardware. Very stressed when I got home but just as he does everyday was greeted by my little furball who was so happy to see me. Our canine companions have that uncanny ability to know what we need! Had a great evening with him and DH just chillaxing.

Congrats to your PA! That's definitely a bit of joyous news! I understand your 'shock' comment though - similar thoughts are often expressed here when anyone doesn't take their full maternity leave (and our statutory maternity leave is paid for 39 weeks I believe, which starts when the leave is started).

The kids are having friends over to camp out in the yard this weekend. Last night we had a practice run setting up the tent, as it's been a while. The boys had a blast rolling around in the tent and zipping/unzipping the doors and windows. The giggling was infectious -- and they're 13 years old! They were talking about it again at breakfast this morning and can't wait for Saturday night. It's fun to do something that makes them so excited and happy.

Ha. Yesterday I managed to shock and awe a teenager. Apparently, the video game Destiny came out with an expansion pack or something and the boy was bouncing off the kitchen wall while he was eating breakfast he was so excited. Two of his gamer friends were so anxious to play that they skipped school (with parental permission-good kids, good grades.) Anyway, he bounced into the kitchen and said "MOM do you know what TODAY IS? " and because I had just seen a commercial and had some kind of vague memory of him playing this game I said "Destiny has a new game coming out?" His jaw dropped, he looked at me and said "How on EARTH did you know that??" He spent the next 10 minutes swearing he hadn't told me anything about it. I told him that he should have remembered that moms know everything. EVERYTHING. I love it when I can one up a teenager.

I made reservations for my best friend and I to go to the beach in November. The weather might be a bit chilly, but we both need a getaway. She's the one person besides my DH that I can totally relax with. Counting down the days!

I went for a long walk with a friend yesterday. We didn't get winded, the air was cool (14C) and no wind. After the summer we had having a cool, overcast, perfect September day to go for a long walk? Priceless. We also met a couple of very cute dogs on the walk. That was just gravy. I think it is supposed to rain today, but if not we might go again this afternoon. The air is perfect at this time of year.

Seriously, scrubbing the bathroom and kitchen floors on my hands and knees. Yes, this made me happy! We moved into our new home end of August. I cleaned the bathroom floor after closing (Aug 12), but we redid the shower (tiled it ourselves - looks great, too if I do say so myself!) so the floor was badly in need of a cleaning. We were not the most clean with the mortar! Anyway, I never touched the kitchen floor because of all the moving, painting and just the in and out. So, now they are done, I am a happy person.

I think I needed to see this thread. My son pushed me out of his bedroom last night.
Usually he wants me in there with him when it's bedtime. This would probably make most moms sad but I can't go more than 2 minutes knowing where he is during the day. He's almost 7. He's been going through the toddler years since he was 2! His kid safe room is a blessing!
