..just to give those of you an idea about how large the area is.
This is a photo from above at night of the DFW metroplex area. The yellow line represents the state of Connecticut overlaid.
I will say, I do not consider Grandbury, Weatherford and a few of the other outlying communities to be part of the "city area" but...even so, it gives you an idea of the distance if one travels from west Fort Worth to east Dallas.
Click on the photo and it will be a larger image to view.

I know, I lived there in the late 1980s for a few years and still have family living there. My dad would see something in the news and had no idea how far away something in Dallas was to usin Fort Worth area. The fact that there are 3 or 4 high schools for the area where my sister lives for their kids to me just shows how large it is when here in New England there is only one high school typically for each town and sometimes two or three towns need to gather to fill a high school/district. So funny how very different and how very large it is there.
I had to move back to New England. It was just too big for me, I just couldn't get used to living in such a huge area.

I knew that the UK would fit into Texas almost three times but didn't realise how big the DFW area alone is! That's amazing!!

I thought you were asking, and I was going to come in and say: It's about the size of my state, CT.
Lol!

That's very interesting. I've never lived in Texas although we came close a couple of times. When I've driven through the Dallas area I've timed it to happen in the middle of the night to avoid as much traffic as possible.

The Simmons Cancer Center is right in the middle of the white-hot part labeled Dallas. I have to go every few weeks and I try my best to time my drive in and out to avoid rush hour. I usually get there around 10 pm and leave before 2 pm.

See, even though I'm from DFW, and I of course know the saying "Everything is bigger in Texas", but I've been here so long- everything just looks smaller elsewhere.
We went to Rochester, MN in May for a friend's wedding- I kept thinking, how cute!! It's like a little, tiny city! Everything was just so close distance wise- 15 minutes from top to bottom.

A road trip to anywhere on the W coast takes FOREVER just to get out of TX.

We moved to Omaha from the DFW area. I love how close everything is and I'm not putting gazillion miles on my car every year.

When we moved from Ft. Worth to a small town in west Texas, on the first day I called my mom and tred to explain to her how close everything was. I remember how excited I was not to spend so much time driving.

We laugh in our family about the first time that ds brought his now wife to Dallas to visit, she is from Rhode Island - we live on the east side of Dallas and he was taking her to Ft Worth to the museums near downtown. She asked him halfway over if she was still in Texas. In her world she would have passed through at least 2 states in that distance

When I first moved to DFW my mom called to warn me about a tornado in Fort Worth. I lived in Mesquite at the time, a good hour from Fort Worth. Mom had no idea DFW was that big.

I live between D and FW and am super spoiled by all that I have access to....DFW int'l airport, concerts, major sporting events, great museums, high quality shopping and restaurants. I cannot imagine living anywhere else, so I won't complain about the driving or the traffic!
