My DD has some pretty bad acne, We have tried every over the counter thing that is out there, We have been to a dermatologist, He has put her on countless meds and nothing has worked. He says next step is Accutane, But we are not there yet, getting there, but it could be a few months down the road yet.
Anyway, She normally does not wear any makeup, Like ever. Sometimes just some eye shadow and some mascara. But never any foundation. I rarely wear makeup either but when I do, I wear Bare Minerals. My mom bought her a set of BareMinerals last year and she hates it. It does not do much in the coverage dept. DD went to a friends last weekend and came home saying that she never gets to wear makeup and that all of her friends wear it everyday. The thing is, is that I have never told her she COULDNT wear makeup. But thought she wasnt wanting to wear it because her face would get worse ( it does get worse if she wears the Bareminerals a few days in a row)
So here is where I need help. I would LOVE to get DD some makeup, I want her to feel like the rest of her friends. Any advice on what kind of foundation to get her? We need something that covers well, but it not cakey. she is really worried about it looking caked on. I dont even know where to start. Anything your teens use and love? Or brands/ kinds to stay away from?
TIA!

Despite my age, I still break-out at the drop of a hat and have to be really careful about what I put on my face. This is the only foundation I can wear: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PKZAZOG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00Because of the Peas I bought myself a Clarisonic, the first few weeks I broke out like I never have before, but once all the gunk had been cleaned out my skin has never looked better. If you daughter doesn't already have one, maybe it's something to think about. I only use Trader Joes foaming face wash (it has tea tree oil in it), the Clarisonic and other fancy/expensive face wash didn't work for my skin

Try Dermablend.
I rarely wear make up but when I do or have something to cover, it really works.
Smooth Indulgence Foundation and Concealer, followed by the Setting Powder.
I use a brushes for the concealer and powder : )

My dd was in the same situation. Her doctor put her on Yaz (birth control) totally cleared up her acne. And, as a bonus has helped with moodiness and cramps during that time of month.
Makeup, she likes Urban Decay Naked. But, she doesn't have any acne to cover now.
My son had similar acne and ultimately took Acutane. It was a wonder med for him.

DD broke out due to allergies to makeup. What works for her is Clinique foundation.
If you don't like it, you can return it for a full refund at Macy's.

Dd has acne and wears Clinique. She ran out and wore another brand and broke out worse, so back to Clinique for her. It givers her decent coverage of her acne which helps her self confidence.

Have you tried taking her to an esthetician? They can try different treatments that can help calm her skin and prevent future breakouts. The one I go to does many different treatments for acne prone skin.

When I have breakouts I use Vichy Dermablend foundation, it covers really well. I use a tiny brush and a little bit extra to cover the spots, you can also get a fixing powder that helps it stay put all day.

I don't know about makeup but i have been having some luck with my acne using bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar masks. You can buy a huge tub on amazon for less than $10. I use about a teaspoon per mask with equal parts acv. It turns my face beet red for about 20 min after I've let the mask sit (30 min.) Then washed off. It is not drying at all either, which i like because i have very dry skin.

She is having big issues on bc pills, periods in the middle of her cycle. this is the 2nd time they have switched her. The pill is not helping her face at. all. And with all of the craziness that is her cycle, she has to be on bc to go on acutane. Its just one big crazy mess. I have heard that many people say once they went on acutane, they never had any issues with acne ever again.... hope this is her case!

She does have a generic face scrubber though and yes, the trader joes face wash with tea tree oil is what she is using now. the 1st week her face was starting to clear up. then after that, it was downhill again. Maybe we will put the Clarisonic on her xmas list for Gma.

My son went on Accutane 15 years ago and I only wish I had allowed him to do it sooner because he does have some residual scarring. It completely resolved the cystic acne he had been battling when nothing else (topical, or antibiotic) worked. He only needed a single cycle of it. Since it is harmful to fetuses, they won't take any chance of pregnancy risk while on it, which is why they insist on girls being on birth control first. He did not have any after effects.
Your daughter should use a water based product; nothing with oil that will clog her pores. Clinique makes one called Acne Solutions that covers and neutralizes redness. She should use a foundation brush with it, which is a little pricey (around $30) but well worth the money. They also make a BB cream, also Acne Solutions, which is a great moisturizer.

The foundation brush I use I bought from ELF cosmetics, I think it cost about $5. After each use I was it with a little soap/bodywash/shampoo (whichever I grab first) and let it air dry. If she uses a brush, make sure she cleans it all the time.

The dermatologist recommends clairisonic for her patients, both male and female. My daughter has very mild acne (she thinks its really severe, but the doctor told her it's hardly noticeable) and she got Clinique foundation and it helps. My husband also had mild acne as a teen. He tells our daughter that at least she can use make up to help cover it up, something he couldn't do!

I always used Revlon Colorstay. It's very full coverage and mattifying. Is she diligent about cleansing her face before bed? That's going to be extra important if she starts wearing makeup. I also found it helpful to change my pillow case every few nights. I had pretty bad acne as a teen, and I was so self-conscious about it. I wish her luck!
