Grandson for Christmas. Has any one had any experience with it? Is it too young for twelve?

My then 10 year old dd got it for Christmas last year and I would think it be fine for 12. There were parts of some kits I had to help her with but other than that she was able to do it on her own. It was really cool.

Looks neat. My son would have still enjoyed it at 12 (I think he would enjoy it now at 19!)
He loved working on things and building things. He was lucky enough to have access to things like welders, torches, presses, etc, but he still would have tinkered with these kits too!
It really stimulates creativity!

For some reason it keeps coming up in my fb feed. Here is the link linkI'm sure it keeps appearing because the site is offering "$10 just for sharing Tinkercrate with your friends." when you visit the site. And then offers FB or Twitter links to share with.

That is really a great idea. I think mine are still too young, but I'm not seeing any age information anywhere.

My son got a subscription for 3 months from his grandparents. He did love them, it was interesting and kept him busy for an afternoon, but we kinda didn't know what to do with the stuff afterwards. I think too the kids always look forward to things coming in the mail.

Love this idea! And the Koala Crate for younger kids. Thanks for bringing this up!

We did a couple years of Kiwi Crate and about six months ago switched to Tinker Crate. I have had absolutely no problems with this company at all. Always very prompt, kits are complete and we've never had a missing piece, billing is smooth. We have had a great experience!
I'll agree with the previous poster who said we've ended up with quite a bit of "stuff." That's one of the things that prompted me to take a break during the school. DS also started the G&T talented program and I wasn't sure how much attention the crates would get. We'll definitely start up again for summer break.
Tinker crate was appropriate for my 9 yo. He's on the advanced side and mechanically inclined but he did need a bit of help. Sometimes DS (16yo) was interested in helping. I really don't think the kits would appeal to older than 12-13 yo on their own though.

I love the idea of tinker crate! My kids aren't old enough for it yet, but hopefully when they are the company will still be around! For now we do Green Kids craft box for my older 2, and Koala Crate for my youngest. They just love those boxes!

My 8 year old gets the doodle crate from the same company. Great quality, but i wonder if we should go for the tinker crate instead. Will keep an eye on this thread. Thanks!
